Error (fault) codes for Indesit and Ariston washing machines

It identifies a breakdown or failure and displays an error code on the machine display. This makes it easier to diagnose, find and correct the defect that has arisen. This system is found in household appliances manufactured by INDESIT COMPANY, previously this organization was called MERLONI. The most popular washing machines produced by this company are called Ariston and Indesit (Ariston and Indesit).
Models made under these brands for quite a long time and equipped with an already outdated EVO-I control system also have the ability to inform the user about errors that have arisen. Only error codes are displayed not using the display, but due to the blinking of the indicator light. The essence of determining the code using blinking is quite simple. For example, flashing 5 times with a very short time interval, after which the flashing stops for a while and then repeats again, will tell us that an error code F05 has occurred.
In washing machines that are made with the EVO-II control system, there is another way to determine the error code. Different models that have this system differ in functionality. And this makes it a little difficult to read errors.
Inexpensive washing machines made under the Indesit and Ariston brands do not have a display. In such models, error data is shown by displaying a whole combination of glowing indicators.

How to determine the error code on an EVO-II machine without a display?
In such washing machines, you can understand the fault code using the light that appears at various indicators. The indicators of such models are as follows:
- KH1 – Timer,
- KN2 – Super wash,
- KN3 - Quick. wash,
- KN4 – Add. Rinsing,
- LED 4 - Wringing out clothes.
Some of these indicators light up, and by which of them do this, you can understand what error has occurred.
List of EVO-II errors and their interpretation
- Only KH4 lights up - error F01 – The control triac of the electric motor has closed.
- Only KH3 lights up - error F02 – The tachogenerator does not indicate that the car’s engine is running. This can happen if the drive belt is stuck, the circuit is short-circuited, or the circuit is broken.
- KH3 and KH4 are lit - error F03 – a short circuit has occurred or the temperature sensor circuit has broken.
- KN2 – F4 – simultaneous information about opposite things (the level relay reports that the tank is full and empty).
- KN2 and KN4 – F5 – After the command to drain water from the tank has occurred, the level switch does not indicate that the tank is empty. In this case, the following malfunctions are possible: breakdown of the pressure switch (level switch), failure of the drain pump (pump), or clogging of the drain system.
- KN2 and KN3 – F6 – The command was not understood, there was an error in the buttons on the control panel.
- KN2, KN3 and KN4 – F07 – The heating element of the washing machine (heating element) does not heat. Can happen when it is not in the water.
- KN1 – F08 – The contact group of the heating element relay is “stuck”. The heating element is broken or there is a problem with the wires.
- KN1 and KN4 – F09 – The volatile memory of the machine has gone wrong.
- KN1 and KN3 – F10 – There is no message that the washing machine tank is empty or full from the pressure switch (level switch).
- KN1, KN3 and KN4 – F11 – There is no electricity supply to the drain pump. Most likely, there was a wire break.
- KN1 and KN2 – F12 – There is no communication between the controller and the display module.
- KN1, KN2 and KN4 – F13 – The wires are broken or the temperature sensor circuit is shorted.
- KN1, KN2 and KN3 – F14 – The drying heating element is faulty. Such a breakdown is possible only in machines that have a laundry drying function.
- KN1, KN2, KN3 and KN4 – F15 – The drying heating element has failed. This breakdown can occur in washing machines with a drying function.
- All indicators are off – F16 – The drum of the washing machine is jammed (only for models with vertical loading of laundry).
- LED4 and KN4 – F17 – There is no voltage supplied to the washing machine door lock. Or is it in the open position?
- LED4 and KN3 – F18 – Communication failure between the controller and the processor controlling the electric motor (asynchronous).
