Where to put salt in an Electrolux dishwasher?

Service center specialists and household appliance manufacturers always warn that dishwashers should not be used unless salt is first poured into the dishwasher. The dishwasher can work in this mode for some time, but after a while, due to such rough handling, the ion exchanger, which softens hard tap water, will fail. Replacing this element is very expensive, so it is better to ensure that there is always salt in the machine. So how much is needed and how to add it to the PMM?

Location of the salt container

The salt reservoir in the Electrolux dishwasher is located in the same place as in all other “home assistants” - at the bottom of the washing chamber. To find it, you need to pull out the lower basket and pay attention to the plastic screw-on lid located closer to the edge of the device wall.

Do not confuse the salt compartment with the garbage filter, the lid of which is usually much larger and located closer to the center of the chamber.

It is into this tank that you need to pour salt every time the machine reports this with a special indicator on the panel. This is the most important ion exchange device, thanks to which the Electrolux dishwasher can soften even the most low-quality hard tap water, so remember its location well.

Add salt carefully

For user convenience, each dishwasher comes with a special funnel. Due to its large diameter, it is convenient to pour salt into the hopper without scattering salt granules throughout the washing chamber.

If you are going to put salt in the dishwasher for the first time, be sure to fill the salt container to the fullest with clean water.

Do not be afraid that when adding salt, water from the compartment will spill out to the bottom of the chamber. Excess water from the bunker will drain into the water supply itself, and the remaining liquid from the washing chamber can be quickly removed with a dry cloth.

You should do the same with salt granules if you accidentally spill them on the bottom of the chamber. You should not leave salt in the washing chamber, as large granules can damage the bottom of the washing chamber of your Electrolux dishwasher.

Do you need a lot of money?

With the number of salt granules, everything is also not as complicated as it seems to new PMM owners at first glance. Experts advise adding salt to the bin until it is completely filled to the brim. The salt reservoir in dishwashers can vary in size, but on average it holds about one kilogram.

Housewives note that usually a kilogram of salt lasts for several months, even if you actively use the Electrolux dishwasher every day. At the same time, you do not need to constantly sprinkle salt just in case, because the device itself will notify you that the salt container is empty. In this case, a special no-salt indicator, which is located on the machine panel, will light up.

It is impossible to know in advance exactly when the salt will run out, but you can approximately calculate this if you know the hardness of tap water. You can get this data as follows:

• contact the utility company that services your water supply;
• find accurate data on the official website of the city water utility, which should be updated once a month;
• check the hardness map for the regions of Russia;
• check the hardness yourself using smart electronic devices or ordinary test strips.

Mainly in the south, in the center of the European part of the Russian Federation and in the south of Western Siberia, the water is much harder than in the European part of the country and in Eastern Siberia. Therefore, residents of the first regions can keep the hardness level on the Electrolux dishwasher at a high level, and the second - at low levels.

If you have a more modern PMM model installed, then it can itself analyze the quality of tap water and select the salt consumption mode. Old-style machines require manual adjustment of the flow rate of salt granules.

In Electrolux dishwashers you can choose one of eight hardness settings. Level zero is used for the softest water, and level seven is for the poorest quality hard water. By default, devices are usually set to a medium level of hardness, but correcting the mode will only take a few minutes, so no one is stopping you from changing the settings once a quarter, when the hardness of tap water usually changes.
