How to put on a belt on a Samsung washing machine?

Washing machines from the Korean company Samsung are very popular among Russian users. • the engine periodically stops working and runs intermittently;
• after starting the wash cycle, it freezes while the motor is running;
• the drum rotates randomly, but the engine does not work at this time;
• The washing machine makes strange noises during operation.

The belt definitely needs replacement if its surface has become “rough”, pellets have appeared on it or on the contacting elements, or delamination is observed. However, all this can only be revealed with direct access to the part.

If you have to change the belt frequently, the machine still acts up, and all possible causes for this behavior have been ruled out, professional diagnostics are necessary.

Getting ready for repairs

To change the drive belt, you will have to partially dismantle the washing machine. Before this, it is necessary to carry out the preparatory work correctly.

1. If there is water and laundry in the drum, the laundry must be removed and the water drained.
2. Turn off the washing machine with the button, disconnect the unit from the power supply and from the water supply.
3. Provide yourself with access to the rear panel of the CM.
4. Prepare a set of screwdrivers for work.

How to get to the drive mechanism?

As mentioned above, the easiest way to access the belt is through the back panel of the washing machine. However, not all models have it removed. For example, Samsung washing machines do not give users this opportunity, which greatly complicates the process of replacing the belt.

First, we will describe what the procedure will be for cars of other brands, where the rear panel is still removed:

• remove the screws holding the back wall;
• remove the cover itself, this will give you convenient access to the parts and a good overview of the work area.

What should owners of machines do at this stage, which only allow them to “climb” to the belt from above? The procedure will be as follows:

• unscrew the screws holding the top panel;
• carefully slide the cover towards the back so that the cover comes out of the grooves;
• “reset” the lid.

Even if you can’t get to the belt from behind, you still need to change it, there’s no getting around it. “Crawling” up to the drive mechanism from above is much less convenient, so be patient.

Installation of a new part

So, before installing a new drive belt, you need to remove the old one. It should be on the drum pulley. If it is not there, the part has probably torn completely and fallen off, falling to the bottom.

If you are the owner of a Samsung machine and cannot remove the back wall of the unit, replacing the drive belt will look like this for you:

• tilt the machine forward and place it so that the tank moves towards the front wall of the washing machine, thus expanding the space between the tank and the rear wall;
• pry the belt with a screwdriver, slide it and remove it from the pulley. It is necessary to hold the belt and turn the pulley, this will help release the part easier.

At this stage, be sure to check whether you have removed all parts of the belt by illuminating the work area with a flashlight; if some fragments remain, you need to remove them all so that they do not interfere with further repairs.

Now you need to put the new part on the motor shaft. If you have to work through the top of the SM, have someone help you grab the belt through the bottom. You can use a wire loop without assistance.

When the part is draped over the engine, you need to put it on the grooves of the pulley. You need to tighten the belt and keep it like that, while simultaneously turning the pulley clockwise. Rotate the pulley to ensure that the drive belt is positioned correctly. Next, reinstall the machine and run a test cycle to check.

Can we find the right part?

The best thing you can do is to buy a belt specifically for your washing machine, taking into account all the parameters, model number, etc. The new part will fit in place of the old one like a glove, and this approach will significantly simplify your search for the right belt.

Experts speak well of poly V-belts. Their peculiarity is that their inner surface is not smooth, but textured, consisting of several wedges.

When selecting a poly V-belt, it is extremely important to consider the distance between the wedges. For Samsung, the parameter is 2.34 mm, which corresponds to type J poly V-belts. This parameter is indicated on the part itself.

The number stamped next to the letter on the surface of the product indicates the number of wedges. The maximum number is 5. For narrow Samsung machines, belts with 3 wedges are suitable, and for wider machines - with 5. Look for J3 or J5.

Note! Also, in no case should you ignore the length of the product. Otherwise, you will not be able to tighten the belt onto the pulley.
