Error A5 on an Indesit dishwasher

Error A5 on an Indesit dishwasherIf your Indesit dishwasher displays error A5, be patient. This code indicates a breakdown of the circulation pump or pressure switch. The cause may also be damage to the main control module. We'll tell you where to start diagnosing and how to fix the problem.

Checking the pressure switch

Modern Indesit dishwashers themselves notify users of system problems. Each error code displayed on the display corresponds to a specific malfunction. A5 informs about malfunctions of the circulation pump or water level sensor. It’s easier to check the pressure switch - this is where diagnostics begin.

To get to the pressure switch, you will need to remove the tray of the Indesit dishwasher.

The algorithm of actions will be as follows:

  • turn off the power to the dishwasher;
  • close the shut-off valve;
  • disconnect the machine from the water supply and sewerage;
  • open the PMM door and remove the dish baskets;upper and lower dish baskets
  • remove the garbage filter, wipe all the water from the hole with a dry cloth;unscrew the dishwasher filter
  • lay the dishwasher “on its back”;
  • Having dealt with the latches, remove the PMM tray;
  • disconnect the float sensor wiring and the bolt securing the element;
  • find the pressure switch - it is a small plastic box to which a tube is connected;checking the PMM pressure switch
  • Use pliers to disconnect the pressure switch pipe.

To begin with, diagnostics of the mechanical part of the pressure switch is carried out. To do this, blow into the sensor fitting and listen. If there are clicks, it means the switch is activated and the device itself is working.

The level sensor electronics are checked with a multimeter. The tester probes must be applied to the contacts of the pressure switch.Next, evaluate the readings on the ohmmeter screen - if they tend to zero, then the device is working properly.

Also check the pressure take-off tube for blockages. Clean it - sometimes this helps restore the functionality of the pressure switch. If a malfunction is detected, replace the water level sensor.

Installation of the pressure switch is performed in the reverse order. Once assembly is complete, run a test cycle and observe your Indesit dishwasher in action. If the PMM normally takes in water and no longer displays error A5, the repair can be considered completed.

Testing the circulation pump

The recirculation pump acts as a motor in the PMM. Under pressure, it supplies water to the tank through the heating element and impellers. If it malfunctions, the Indesit dishwasher will not start working and will display error A5 on the display.

You will have to check the circulation pump for functionality. For this:

  • de-energize the PMM;
  • disconnect the machine from communications;
  • remove the dish baskets and garbage filter from the hopper;
  • lay the machine on its side, remove the tray;
  • disconnect the float sensor connectors;where is the circulation pump located
  • find the pump, deal with the clamps securing it;
  • Remove the circulation pump from the dishwasher.

To diagnose the element you will need a multimeter. What should be done:

  • switch the tester to resistance measurement mode;
  • install the terminals at the ends of the wires and check the resistance generated by the pump winding (it should exceed 100 Ohms).

The mechanical part is also checked. It is necessary to insert a screwdriver into the opening of the circulation pump axis and see if the motor jams. Rotation must be free.

If the cyclic pump is burned out, then only replacing the element will help reset the error. In this case, the unit cannot be repaired.If the problem is wear on the bushings or impeller, you can replace these parts separately.

Electronics need to be checked

The worst thing is if error A5 is caused by a damaged control module. It is the electronic unit that controls the operation of all components of the Indesit dishwasher and is responsible for transmitting commands to the parts of the device. Therefore, a faulty board could be the cause of any code on the display.

It is almost impossible to repair an electronic module with your own hands without knowledge and experience; you will have to contact a specialist.

What should I do to check the control module? First you need to inspect the part. For this:BIT100 board on PMM Indesit

  • turn off the power to the Indesit dishwasher;
  • open the PMM door;
  • Unscrew the screws on the door;
  • remove the top part of the door;
  • find the control board.

Next, inspect the block. The control module may have traces of carbon deposits, rust, swollen areas, and oxidized contacts. These defects are visible to the naked eye.

Problems with an electronic unit cannot always be determined by eye. More often, more in-depth diagnostics are required - each semiconductor is tested with a multimeter. It is recommended to entrust this work to a specialist. The specialist will identify the problem and, if possible, repair the control board. If the part cannot be repaired, then a new module is installed.
