Error E01 of the Whirlpool washing machine

Error E01 of the Whirlpool washing machineThe self-diagnosis system for faults, which is equipped with modern Whirlpool washing machines, helps the user narrow down the search for a breakdown and understand how to repair the “home assistant”. The explanation of the fault codes is presented in the instructions for the machine. Let's figure out what error E01 indicates, how to deal with the problem that has arisen?

Meaning of the specified code

In fact, you shouldn’t be afraid of this designation. In 80% of cases the error E01 indicates a malfunction of the hatch locking device or a problem with the loading door mechanism. The washing machine will display a code if the UBL does not work or the hatch door is not pressed tightly against the body. Error E01 can also appear if there is a break in the circuit, for example, when the power wire of the locking device is disconnected or the chip is displaced.

It will be more difficult to eliminate the error if the control module fails. In 20% of cases, a fault code is displayed when connections in the “control module – UBL” circuit are broken. Repairing the main control unit requires training and certain knowledge. If you do not have skills in working with electronics, it is better to invite a specialist to restore the module.

Necessary actions

If you find error E01 on the display, you should diagnose the control board. Before starting work, turn off the power to your Whirlpool washing machine. Then you can begin to remove the board from the case and inspect it. Usually, a damaged element on the board can be seen with the naked eye.

First of all, inspect the Z0103 triac; it can literally “explode” on the board due to small voltage surges.

If the problem is a failed triac, you will have to dismantle it and replace it, along with the resistors described above. While working, it is advisable not to rush, but at the same time clean and solder the tracks on the control board. This will improve the contact of the elements.

Replacing the sunroof locking device can help fix the problem. It is the UBL ZV-446 that often breaks down. If, when carrying out repairs yourself, you decide to simply clean the part from carbon deposits and reinstall it, a recurrence of error E01 is inevitable.

Replacing UBL

If the reason is a worn-out hatch locking device, there is only one way out - replace the failed part with a new one. It is better to go to a specialized store with the UBL removed from the housing so that the consultant can select a similar spare part for you. What to do after purchasing an item? The algorithm of actions when replacing the blocking device will be as follows:UBL of the Whirlpool washing machine

  • unplug the CMA power cord from the electrical outlet (for personal safety, since the work will take place on nodes that carry current);
  • tuck the cuff surrounding the hatch inside the drum. To do this, loosen the metal clamp holding the seal. A regular flat-head screwdriver will help you to remove the clamp latch. You can not completely fill the cuff, but move only its part located on the UBL side;
  • disconnect the door lock device. This is easy to do - unscrew a couple of bolts holding the mechanism, pull the UBL towards you a little, disconnect the wires leading to the element.

The locking device has been removed. The removed element is diagnosed for the need for partial repair or complete replacement. Only thermal blocking devices can be repaired.They can be in the form of a bimetallic plate or flag type. The flag can be replaced with a new one; if the fasteners on the plate are loose, they need to be tightened. It is also advisable to clean the plate to improve contact.

It will not be possible to repair any other part of the mechanism. Manufacturers of washing machines release UBL onto the market exclusively assembled, without selling the individual components of the blocking device. Therefore, you will have to buy a new, working mechanism and connect it to the designated place.

You can try to assemble one serviceable UBL from several failed ones, but here you should understand that such a blocking device will not last long.

A working hatch locking device is installed in place, and the previously removed cable is connected to it. The mechanism is fixed with mounting bolts. Then you should straighten the cuff on the Whirlpool washing machine and secure the retaining clamp. If everything is done correctly, replacing the UBL should help reset error E01. The washing machine will safely lock the door and begin drawing water into the tank.
