Error E01 on a Bosch dishwasher

Error E01 on a Bosch dishwasherA machine displaying error E01 indicates problems with water heating. In most cases, the “culprit” is the heating element. Over time, the part becomes covered with limescale and scale, which leads to damage to the element. You can replace the heater yourself, at home.

Where did this code come from?

Bosch dishwasher code E01 indicates the impossibility of heating water. The most common cause of the error is a faulty heating element, less often the culprit is a temperature sensor. Sometimes it’s a matter of loose contacts, which disrupts the connection between the heating element and the control board.

A burnt-out heating element cannot be repaired; it will need to be replaced.

What to do if you notice this error code on the dishwasher display? First, check if the water in the washing chamber is heating up. If it is cold, you will have to get to the heating element and diagnose it.dishwasher temperature sensor

If the water in the washing chamber is hot, the reason may be a malfunctioning thermistor. A broken sensor transmits incorrect information to the control module. Informs that the water is cold, while there is heating. Replacing the thermistor will help clear the error.

In Bosch dishwashers, the heating element is located in the same housing as the circulation pump. To diagnose the heating element, you do not need to disassemble the unit. We'll tell you how to fix the error message generated by the dishwasher yourself.

Restarting the PMM and checking the heating element

First, you need to make sure that your Bosch dishwasher is not showing error E01 by accident. This is checked by rebooting the device. Turn off the dishwasher with the button, then unplug the power cord from the outlet and wait 15-20 minutes.Then plug the PMM back into the network - if the code is on, it means there really is a malfunction, and the machine will need diagnostics.

The heating element of Bosch dishwashers is located in the same housing with the circulation pump. The cost of the assembled unit is from 45 to 120 $. Therefore, first it is better to make sure that the reason is really a malfunction of the heating element, and only then buy replacement components.circulation pump repair

To diagnose the heating element:

  • de-energize the PMM;
  • turn off the valve responsible for supplying water to the machine;
  • disconnect the dishwasher from the communications by unhooking the hoses;
  • move the dishwasher to a place where it will be convenient to work with it;
  • remove the dish baskets from the hopper;
  • remove the PMM garbage filter;unscrew the dishwasher filter
  • Unscrew the bolts securing the side wall of the device, remove the panel and set it aside;
  • turn the machine upside down;
  • remove the sound insulation from the side wall;
  • remove the springs of the PMM door smooth opening mechanism;
  • use a screwdriver to remove the dishwasher tray;Removing the Bosch dishwasher tray
  • disconnect the float sensor connectors;
  • unhook the filler pipe.

When the bottom of the dishwasher is removed, the circulation pump will become visible. This is a fairly large unit to which wires and pipes are connected. To diagnose the heating element, it is not necessary to remove the part from the PMM body.

The heater contacts are located on the recirculation pump housing. Diagnostics is performed using a special device - a multimeter. You need to switch the tester to ohmmeter mode, attach the probes to the terminals and measure the resistance produced by the heating element.

A working heating element should produce a resistance within 21-22 Ohms.

If the multimeter display shows zero, one or an infinite number, this indicates that the heater is broken and needs to be replaced.When the tester readings are normal, then it is worth checking the heating element for breakdown.checking the dishwasher heating element with a multimeter

To do this, the multimeter is switched to megohm measurement mode. Afterwards, one of its probes is leaned against the power contact of the heating element, the second - against the ground or directly against the body. If the heater is working properly, the readings on the tester display will tend to infinity.

It is important to apply the multimeter probe to a dry heating element. If the heater body is wet, the readings will be false. Therefore, during diagnostics, make sure that the element is not wet.

After making sure that the error code is caused by a really broken heating element, change the circulation pump of the Bosch dishwasher. If you are not sure, invite a specialist and pay him for the diagnosis. The wizard will confirm or refute your guess.

Weak point - temperature sensor

Sometimes this error code is caused by a temperature sensor. The thermostat contacts are located next to the heating element. The thermistor has three terminals, one of which is common.

The thermostat transmits information about the water temperature to the control module. When a sensor fails, it may report data that is not true, for example that there is no heating. The “brain” will stop the dishwasher and display error E01 on the display.

The thermistor is also checked with a multimeter. First, you should switch the tester to the kilo-ohm measurement mode and look at the resistance between the central and outer terminals of the sensor. It should be the same.checking the dishwasher temperature sensor

Then the resistance between the two extreme contacts is measured. This value must correspond to the sum of the previous measurements. If everything matches, the diagnosis continues further.

The resistance output from the sensor will change at different temperatures.At +25 degrees, about 7 kOhm can be measured between the extreme and central contacts, and between the two extreme ones, respectively, 14 kOhms. If you immerse the thermistor in warm water (40-50°C), the readings on the multimeter display should decrease proportionally.

If a problem is identified, replace the temperature sensor. Unlike the heating element, the thermistor can be purchased separately. Repairs are easy to complete. It is enough to press the clamps and pull out the old thermostat, being careful not to damage the seal. Then a new part is put in place.

Next, the Bosch dishwasher is assembled in reverse order. The previously dismantled circulation pump is put in place, wires and pipes are connected to it. Then the float connectors are connected and the pan is fixed. When finished, run a test wash - the error should go away.
