Error E6 in a Bosch washing machine

Error E6 in a Bosch washing machineWhen you see a fault code on the display of the washer, you need to open the user manual and read the explanation of the symbol. This way it will become clear what kind of failure occurred. However, with error E6 on a Bosch machine, everything is not so simple. It is not described in many instructions, but it is programmed in the intelligence of the machine. Let's figure out what this code means and what kind of breakdown it indicates.

What kind of code is this?

To return the washing machine to working order, you need to understand what malfunction the machine is signaling. Error code E6 indicates the impossibility of draining waste water from the tank. Usually the cause of this is a simple blockage. The garbage filter, drain hose, drain pipe may be clogged, or hair may be wrapped around the pump impeller.

If you see the universal error E6 on the display, you will have to check all elements of the drain system.

The code may indicate not only a blockage, but also a pump failure. Perhaps the pump “burned out” or the impeller blades broke off. There are a lot of reasons; you need to start diagnosing your washing machine in order to identify and eliminate them. But what should you do first? It is recommended to carry out the check from simple to complex.

Start with a filter

Fixing a machine that displays error E6 is not nearly as difficult as it seems at first glance. Even beginners can successfully complete the task by strictly following the instructions for action. It is recommended to start checking by cleaning the debris filter. The algorithm of actions will be as follows:

  • turn off the power to the washing machine;
  • turn off the water supply to the machine;
  • find the location of the drain filter.It is located in the lower corner of the front wall of the case, usually “hidden” behind a false panel or a small flap. Using a flat-head screwdriver, pry up the latches, remove the panel or open the service hatch;
  • cover the floor around the machine with dry rags;start by cleaning the filter
  • prepare a low container, tilt the machine back and place a basin under the filter;
  • Unscrew the plug half a turn and collect the water that flows out of the hole. To drain completely, the filter must be turned to the left 45-60 degrees;
  • remove the filter element from the housing;
  • clean large debris from its surface, wipe off dirt with a damp sponge. Next, rinse the part with warm water;
  • clean the seat from plaque and dirt deposits;
  • Screw the filter back into the hole.

Do not wash a plastic part with boiling water. This can lead to deformation of the filter and loss of its properties. Having finished checking and cleaning the “trash can”, it is better to start inspecting the drain hose.

Feel the drain hose to see if it is squashed by a foreign object. Disconnect the corrugation from the machine and the siphon, clean it with a special brush, rinse under running water, and then connect the hose back.

Main tank drain pipe

As practice shows, quite often error code E6 indicates a clogged pipe connecting the tank to the pump. To check it, you will have to lay the machine on its side. If the Bosch model is equipped with a bottom, you need to unscrew the bolts and remove the tray; if not, the drain pipe will become visible immediately after placing the washing machine.

The Bosch washing machine connection is connected in three places - to the tank, drain pump, and pressure hose.

First, it is necessary to loosen the clamps securing the pipe at each connection point.Then all that remains is to move the tube to the side. If visually no damage to the element is detected, you can clean its cavity with a special brush and put it in place. When the pipe looks too worn, with creases visible on the surface, it is necessary to replace it by installing a new hose on the existing fasteners.cleaning the pipe

If it is not possible to rinse the pipe well with plain water, you can soak it in a solution of citric acid. To do this, you will need to dilute 100 grams of lemon juice in two liters of warm water and leave the element in the resulting liquid for 4-6 hours. After some time, the part is taken out, cleaned from the inside with a brush and washed under the tap.

Detailed pump check

If all the steps taken did not lead to the desired result, and error code E6 still appears during washing, you will have to inspect the drain pump. Most often the pump impeller is damaged, and it is worth checking first.

The impeller is located immediately behind the filter. Even a small foreign object stuck between its blades (button, coin, button) can disrupt the operation of the pump. Any little thing can cause the pump to fail.

So, the first thing you should do is see if the impeller is spinning. If movement occurs without any difficulty, then it is functioning properly. Otherwise, you will have to remove the object stuck between the blades and remove the hair and threads wrapped around them. If this does not help, you need to check the pump with a multimeter; perhaps the part has “burned out”.

The first diagnostic step is to remove the drain filter. How to do this is described above. Then you should start the “Spin” mode and shine the light into the hole formed after removing the “trash bin”.If the impeller is frozen and does not move, this is a clear sign of a pump malfunction. It is not advisable to start repairing the pump; it is better to immediately put a new part in the machine.Removing and checking the pump

The next step is to purchase a suitable pump. You can remove the failed part and go to the store with it to pick up a similar pump. Or tell the manager the model, year of manufacture and serial number of the Bosch washing machine, and he will advise which spare parts to purchase.

When ordering a drain pump online, be extremely careful. It is important to choose a pump that fully matches the model of your Bosch machine.

So, the replacement part has been purchased, you can begin the final stage of repair. To install a new pump, you need to remove the old one. To do this, unscrew the garbage filter, drain the water from the system, lay the machine on its side, disconnect the pump pipe, wiring, unscrew the fastening bolts and remove the element from the housing. Afterwards, the working part is fixed in place, contacts are connected to it, according to the previous scheme, and the drain pipe is connected. The Bosch machine is assembled in reverse order.

If you can’t fix the washing machine and it still displays error E6, you’ll have to turn to a technician for help. The specialist will conduct a more complete diagnosis and identify the cause of the breakdown. However, in most cases, the problem can be solved by cleaning the elements of the drain system or replacing the pump.
