Washing a polyester blanket in the washing machine

Washing a polyester blanket in the washing machinePolyester, or polyester fiber, is considered a soft and durable synthetic material. Blankets based on it often have a mixed composition, supplemented with natural cotton, viscose or wool. You can find out the percentage of synthetics in the bedspread from the label, where the manufacturer will indicate the optimal cleaning conditions.

In rare cases, the product can only be cleaned by hand or dry cleaning, but more often it is allowed to wash a polyester blanket in a washing machine. All that remains is to figure out how to set up the machine and organize the process.

How hot should the water be?

When choosing a temperature, you must refer to the product label. If it is lost or unreadable, then you need to follow the general recommendations for cleaning polyester items. The degree of water heating depends on the soiling of the blanket:

  • when you need to wash heavy stains - 40 degrees;choose a temperature of 40 degrees
  • if you just need to refresh the product - 30 degrees.

The optimal temperature for cleaning polyester is up to 40 degrees.

Selecting a high-temperature mode and heating the machine to 50-60 degrees is unacceptable. In hot water, natural and synthetic fibers will become discolored and deformed, which will irrevocably damage the blanket. There is no need to wash on low either - in a cold environment the detergent will dissolve more slowly and will not be able to clean stains to its full potential.

Which program is suitable?

We pay special attention to the choice of program. Ideally, you need to turn on the most gentle mode - “Manual”, “Delicate”, as well as “Wool” and “Silk”. They guarantee gentle cleaning without intensive rotation of the drum. The main thing is to adjust the settings, setting the heat to 40 degrees and the spin to 400-800.

A polyester blanket can be washed using the “Wool”, “Synthetics”, “Silk”, “Delicate Wash” and “Hand Wash” programs.

If the blanket is sufficiently refreshed, you can save time and resources by turning on the “Quick 30” program. It is advisable not to use pre-washing, but double rinsing will not hurt. It is allowed to add conditioner or rinse aid at the “finish” to make the product soft and smooth.silk program is suitable

Difficult spots

If there are complex and old stains on the fabric, it is necessary to first clean the affected areas. But you can’t immediately apply stain remover to a blanket - first we check the fibers for strength and pigment durability by smearing an inconspicuous area from the inside out. If the material has faded, then a more gentle cleaner is needed.

A chlorine-free stain remover is used to remove stains from polyester.

It perfectly removes stains from polyester with various types of laundry soap. Table salt sprinkled on top can also absorb dirt from synthetics. It is better to clean colored items with 10% brown, quenched citric acid. The selected product is applied to the stained area and rubbed in with the convex side of a spoon. The smooth surface of the device will prevent the fibers from deforming.borax

Is it difficult to dry?

It is not recommended to wring out a polyester blanket - twisting and intense pressure will damage the fibers and leave creases that are difficult to iron out. It is better to remove the wet blanket from the drum and place it on the bottom of the bath, allowing the water to drain freely from the fabric. Allowed only to carefully press the material and turn it over.

A blanket made of polyester fibers takes 1.5-2 hours to dry under natural conditions.

Afterwards, the blanket is hung on hangers and soaked with a dry terry towel. For drying, choose a ventilated place away from direct sunlight and heating devices. Polyester dries quickly - on average 1.5-2 hours.
