How to lift a dryer alone

How to lift a dryer aloneWhenever users learn that dryers are much lighter than washing machines, they decide to independently transport the equipment from one place to another. However, all this entails unnecessary problems both during the movement itself and during installation, so we do not recommend doing this. However, if a situation arises in which there is nowhere to wait for help, we will share with you how to properly lift and move the dryer for one person, without harming either yourself or the device.

Is the dryer heavy?

The fact that a drying unit is lighter than a washing unit does not mean that it weighs no more than a bag of cotton wool. This is actually quite a heavy device, the weight of which can vary significantly depending on the specific model. These include:

  • LG (“El G”) DC90V9V9W – 55 kg;
  • Gorenje (“Combustion”) DE82/G – 50 kg;
  • Electrolux (“Electrolux”) EW9H1R88SC – 48 kg;
  • Samsung (“Samsung”) DV90T5240AT – 47 kg;
  • Bosch ("Bosch") WTM83261OE - 39 kg;
  • Hotpoint-Ariston (“Hotpoint Ariston”) NT CM10 7B RU – 34 kg.Candy CS C10DBGX-07 dryer

In addition to these brands, there are others whose weight reaches as much as 60-70 kilograms. Based on this information, we can conclude that it is not worth lifting such equipment alone. Not only is it heavy, it’s also bulky: there’s nothing special to grab it securely, and wrapping your hands around the body is simply inconvenient. However, experienced owners find a way out of the situation and manage to move devices over fairly large distances without outside help.

Before transporting your dryer, make sure the area where you plan to install it is prepared - this will avoid having to lift heavy equipment twice!

Don’t forget to also check that all wires and hoses are disconnected from the device before moving it away from the wall. To safely lift and further move the device, you will need some tools, which we will discuss below. Make sure you have all the necessary equipment before you begin.

Ways to Move a Dryer Alone

To transport a heavy dryer, you can use a variety of convenient accessories. The most effective is a garden wheelbarrow. Because it is popular, it is easy to find. If you suddenly don’t have this gardening tool, you can always ask your neighbor for it. Let's find out exactly how to use the wheelbarrow.

This device consists of a trough, a steel frame with handles and wheels. However, when it comes to transporting the dryer, we don't need a trough. First, arm yourself with a screwdriver and unscrew the screws that hold it in place. We remove this element and put it aside, after which we carefully inspect the frame: if there are burrs or protruding screws, we use tape on such places. We proceed from the following procedure:dryer trolley

  • take cling film and wrap it around the body of the machine;
  • we place the device on the frame of the wheelbarrow (there is no need to lift it, just move the device on its side and roll the wheelbarrow under it);
  • We secure the dryer with belts or the same tape.

Thus, we transport the dryer over long distances without inconvenience and unnecessary stress. But this is not the only method of transportation. For the other, you will need special straps to secure the loads. We proceed as follows:

  • we take two belts and wrap the unit vertically so that the top cover and tray are secured;
  • Using carabiners, we fix the belts so that they do not come off;
  • we approach the dryer, stand with our back to it and put our hands under the straps, as if we were going to put on a backpack;
  • Carefully lift the device onto your back and carry it.car behind my back

A healthy and strong man can easily cope with such weight on his shoulders. Although this method is more dangerous, it allows you to raise the dryer to a sufficient height for subsequent installation. For example, in a column on a washing machine. When you place the dryer, be sure to make sure it is level. Don’t forget to also connect all the necessary wires and check if the equipment is working correctly.

As we found out today, the dryer, and other large household appliances, can be heavy and bulky, and this creates problems when installing and moving them. This task can be completed on your own, provided you do not ignore preparation and use of the correct technique. Always remember to be safe and minimize the risk of injury. If you feel that the dryer is too heavy, it is better to have a second person transport it or get professional help.
