Replacing the water filter for a washing machine

In a normal situation, the flow filter of a washing machine lasts for several years, so you won’t have to think about its condition anytime soon. However, sooner or later it still breaks down, so you have to spend time and money restoring the functionality of the “home assistant”. Let's figure out whether in such a situation it is possible to change the water filter for the washing machine yourself, or to do this you must call a service center specialist.

How to update the filter element?

Replacing the filter element yourself usually does not cause difficulties due to the fact that most filters have a simple design. Most often, these elements consist of a plastic case, inside of which there is a filler. In this case, on the body you can find outlets for connecting adapters to which pipes or hoses should be attached. The plastic part of the part often consists of two elements - a cover with outlets for adapters, as well as a container with filler that is screwed to the cover.

Working with such a filter is a pleasure, because the entire update process takes only a few minutes and does not require serious investments. You just need to buy a replacement cassette with filler that is suitable for your filter element. Then you need to disconnect the washing machine from the water supply and electrical network - the latter is necessary for your safety. Next, you need to lay several rags or towels on the floor under the washing machine so as not to spoil the floor covering with water.

After this, you can begin to dismantle the old cassette, for which you need to unscrew it, and then install a new one in its seat. Be careful not to accidentally strip the threads by screwing the cassette in incorrectly. If you install the filter element unevenly, it will actively leak water during washing. After replacement, be sure to check the operation of the machine during a test operating cycle. Observe how the filter works - does it allow moisture to pass through, does water pass through it freely.

To ensure that the filter does not leak, you can additionally wind plumbing tape onto the adapters against the thread. You only need to wind it a little.

In a situation where your device has a filter with a one-piece, non-separable structure, it will not be possible to replace the filler alone, so you will have to buy a new filter element. In this case, you will have to prepare the open-end wrench required for the filter adapters, plus also turn off the water and electricity supply before starting work.

After minimal preparation, you can begin to dismantle the filter, for which you will need to unscrew the adapters. Install a new filter unit, and then check its functionality with a dry wash.

Standard machine filter

Often housewives have no idea that their household appliances have a standard filter for rough purification of tap water. Usually they are not very effective, because they are unable to cope with hard water from the tap, but if such a filter element breaks, and there is no pre-filter for the “home assistant”, then various debris will quickly begin to penetrate into the system. To prevent low-quality tap water from damaging the washing machine, you need to carefully monitor the condition of the standard filter in order to make an urgent replacement if necessary. This item is called an inlet valve filter, which you will need to purchase a suitable spare part in the store. What should I do to install it instead of a damaged node?

• Disconnect the machine from all communications.
• Move the automatic SM to the center of the room so that you have access to the back panel.

Just in case, it is better to lay rags or unnecessary towels on the floor, which will absorb the waste liquid from the filler sleeve.

• Unscrew the nut with the rubber cuff that holds the inlet hose attached to the machine body at the top right.
• In the fitting of the filling hose you will find a standard filter for rough water purification.
• Remove the filter mesh with your own hands or using pliers.
• If you have not yet purchased a replacement part, take the damaged filter with you to the store as an example to purchase a similar part.
• Carefully install the new filter element using pliers.
• Replace the filling hose and secure it securely.
• Connect the washing machine to the water supply and electrical network to check the functionality of the new filter element.

As you can see, there is nothing complicated in replacing filters, so even a person without experience in repairing household appliances can cope with such work. The whole procedure takes about 5-10 minutes, so there is no point in calling a repair service.
