Checking a used dishwasher when buying second hand

Checking a used dishwasher when buying second handAccording to statistics, more and more people are starting to use dishwashers every year. However, for some it is still quite an expensive purchase. The opportunity to buy a used unit second-hand comes to the rescue. If the previous owners treated it with enough care, then this is an excellent chance to buy a really good unit at a lower cost. However, you need to know how to properly check a used dishwasher for “professional suitability” so as not to run into a wreck.

What will we check?

Not every seller will allow you to disassemble the dishwasher before purchasing to make sure it is working. For this reason, it is better to buy from someone you know; it is easier to negotiate with them. To protect yourself from failure when buying secondhand, you need to check a lot of things.

  • Condition of fastening elements. If the bolts clearly show dents or signs of loosening, this most likely means that the machine has already been repaired. The fact of repair itself is not scary, but there is no guarantee that really high-quality parts were supplied there. If during the repair process there were significant savings on elements, this does not bode well for you.
  • Are there any calcium deposits or other types of corrosion? If you saw them with the naked eye, this almost certainly means that the pump, tubes and heater are in general poor condition.
  • Sprinklers. They are the ones who suffer first from the notorious plaque and corrosion and cease to cope with their task.See if they rotate freely, if they are all in place, and how they look overall.Spray arms do not spin in dishwasher
  • Condition of the hoses. With prolonged use, the rubber becomes dull and can burst at any moment. Check to see if there are any kinks or damage on the hoses, if they move well and if there are any blockages inside.
  • Overall the performance of the machine. When sold, it will probably already be disconnected from all communications, but you can protect yourself from deception only by checking whether the unit turns on and off as it should. It will most likely not be possible to connect it to the water supply either. So you have to rely on luck.

If at least with the listed factors everything is in order, this will already give some kind of guarantee that the machine will not break down in the very first days after purchase.

Why is it better to buy PMM at a second-hand store?

Thrift stores should not be underestimated. Although used items are sold there, they first undergo diagnostics and pre-sale preparation.

Important! This procedure involves replacing worn parts if necessary and cleaning clogged areas.

So the units in used equipment stores are quite trustworthy. Moreover, all their technical characteristics are presented, and sellers even provide warranty cards. But sellers from free classifieds sites are not always as conscientious. Some try to sell worthless equipment at a high price, hiding its shortcomings.
