Do-it-yourself repair of the Indesit washing machine control unit

The difficulty of independently repairing the control unit of an automatic machine lies in the fact that there are tens of thousands of possible problems. Checking each semiconductor element of the board at home may be ineffective. However, if you know the typical “symptoms” of a breakdown, you can quickly find the problem. Let's figure out how to eliminate some damage to the control module of the Indesit washing machine.

All indicators flashing

A fairly common breakdown of the control unit, which can be fixed with your own hands. A typical sign is that the machine begins to flash all the lights on the panel. Moreover, the indication “blinks” very quickly, like a light-music. This “symptom” indicates a malfunction of the control panel. What actions should you take if you detect the glow of the LEDs?

The power supply needs to be checked. To do this, you need to remove the element from the body of the Indesit washing machine. In models with a horizontal loading type, it is located in the lower rear corner, on the left. In “vertical” washing machines, the control unit is located on top, directly under the panel.

After the unit is removed from the machine, remove the module from the plastic box and carefully inspect the unit for swelling. Also, attention should be paid to capacitors. If you find a damaged or burnt part, you will have to replace it.

When replacing, pay attention to the polarity of the capacitors; incorrect installation can lead to complete failure of the display panel.

It is also important to take into account the capacity of the condensers to be replaced and their voltage. Capacitors are designed to dampen pulses, so it is not advisable to install elements with other ratings. So, if the capacitance is 680 µF, a similar capacitor should be installed. At the same time, the voltage can be increased, for example, replaced by 680 uF and 16 Volts.

The washing machine does not turn on

First, I would like to remind you how important it is to correctly connect the heating element of the Indesit washing machine. In practice, there was a case when the owner of the machine replaced the heating element, after which the washing machine worked, did not leak and heated the water. However, very soon the machine simply stopped turning on. The breakdown was caused by unsuccessful repair of the heater. What happened?

Due to an incorrectly connected heating element, several elements of the control board can burn out at once. In the above example, the leg of relay k5 burned out, in addition, throttle l1 became unusable. No defects in resistors or varistors were found, but this was just luck. Repair of the control unit consisted of replacing the tny264 and uln2003, the mains and secondary capacitor of the microcircuit.

If the Indesit washing machine simply stops turning on, you should check the d9 diode and the board transistors. If damage to semiconductors is detected, they can only be replaced with similar ones. If you can’t find exactly the same transistors, be sure to set the value equal to the previous one.

If reinstalling the indicated elements did not help to revive the control board, diagnose the transformer. There is no point in checking the element on the microcircuit; you must first dismantle it. Most likely, the transformer will also have to be changed.

The worst thing is if the processor “dies” as a result of a voltage drop. In this case, repairing the control unit will be useless.The only way to save the Indesit washing machine is to install a new control board. In general, board repair falls into the category of complex work that requires certain knowledge. Therefore, if you can’t fix the block yourself, it’s better to invite a specialist.
