The washing machine takes a long time to spin

Typically, spinning in an automatic washing machine does not take very long, so if it has started, then the working cycle is about to end. But if the washing machine spins for a long time, then most likely there is some problem with the machine. It can be hidden in several places at once, from a normal drum overload to a malfunction in the electronics. At the same time, the diagnostic program is unlikely to help in this situation, since the “home assistant” will simply indicate on the display the error code responsible for the lack of spin, and not the cause of the breakdown. Let's figure out what should be done in such a situation at home.

The machine does not complete the spin cycle

The situation when the washing machine spins clothes endlessly instead of stopping the drum and completing the job is very dangerous, because it can lead to overheating of the machine and damage to the bearings. That is why in this case it is so important to turn off the equipment as quickly as possible, using the safest method possible. To do this, you need to press the “Start/Pause” key and wait until the rotation of the reel is completely completed.

If the button does not work, then all that remains is to unplug the power cord from the outlet and thus turn off the power to the equipment.

You shouldn’t overuse removing the cord from the outlet, but if you can turn off the “home assistant” only in this way, then you shouldn’t delay it.

What caused this problem?

Any machine manages to perform dozens of different actions in one working cycle. First, she draws tap water into the tank, for which she needs to open the inlet valve.The detergent is then mixed with the liquid, and the motor activates the rotation of the drum. After the soaking stage, the washing machine gets rid of waste water, takes in fresh clean water, and then mixes it with household chemicals for the main wash, located in another compartment of the powder receptacle.

Once the main stage of processing the clothes is completed, the device will once again drain the used liquid, and then again draw clean water - this time for rinsing. After rinsing, spinning will begin, the problems with which we will try to solve today. A malfunction during the spin cycle can sometimes be tracked using an error code that the machine will display on the information display, but if the household appliance does not indicate which element is broken, then you will have to look for the cause of the malfunction yourself. In this case, it is better to know the SM device in order to accurately determine the problem. The first step is to make sure that the problem is not due to user error.

• Washing machine overload.
• Trying to wash one, but overly bulky item.
• Too few items were loaded for one work cycle.
• The user has selected a mode that does not allow spinning of clothes.
• A foreign object has entered the tank, for example, a bone from a bra, a hairpin, a paper clip, a nail, a needle, a coin, and so on. Even such small things can interfere with the work process, which is why the drum will not spin at the proper speed during the spin cycle.

If you allow yourself to be overloaded with things, the clothes will simply bunch up into a tight lump, causing the drum to become unbalanced. Such behavior can damage the operation of the drive, which is why the “home assistant” will urgently stop the working cycle so that the user can remove unnecessary things.

This can also happen in a situation where too little laundry was loaded. Many new machines can detect extremely low weights of loaded clothes and stop spinning. If the reason is hidden in a foreign object that has gotten into the space between the drum and the tank, then the foreign body must be immediately removed so that it not only does not block the free rotation of the drum, but also does not damage the plastic elements, which is why the machine may begin to leak during work.

When you are convinced that the problem is not in any of the five points listed, you can begin diagnosing the device at home. To do this, you will have to partially disassemble the equipment, which can easily be done without much experience and knowledge if you follow our instructions.

Let's look at the motor and tachometer

First of all, we will study the components that most often fail - the electric motor and the tachometer. Often, the electric motor loses power due to wear on the brushes, so it loses the ability to accelerate the drum to the speed required for a high-quality spin. Because of this, spinning becomes impossible and the washing machine begins to malfunction. How to properly check motor brushes?

• Turn off the power to the machine and disconnect it from all communications.
• Remove the top cover of the SM, for which you need to first unscrew the fixing bolts.
• Remove the back wall of the device case.
• Remove the drive belt from the pulleys.
• Disconnect all wires from the electric motor.

It is better to record the correct connection on paper or take a photograph before disconnecting the wiring, so that later you will have an example at hand for reassembly.

• Unscrew the motor clamps.
• Remove the assembly from the device body.
• Unscrew the small screws on the sides of the element to remove the carbon brushes.
• Visually assess brush wear.
• If at least the brush is worn out, then both elements must be replaced at once, even if one of them is in perfect condition.

If checking the brushes did not yield anything, then the tachometer may need repairs. The tachogenerator must be checked with a multimeter:

• Switch the instrument to ohmmeter mode.
• Use it to measure the resistance of the tachogenerator.
• It’s good if the value is around 60 ohms.
• Then the device should be switched to voltage measurement mode.
• Measure the voltage at the tachometer terminals while cranking the engine.
• Everything is fine if the multimeter gives a reading of about 0.2V.

If the tachogenerator is faulty, it will not be able to control the speed of the electric motor, which will make spinning impossible. Be sure to replace the element if you find that it is the cause of the malfunction.

Control board

The worst thing is if the equipment stops spinning because the control board of the device is damaged. The fact is that the electronic control board is considered a kind of “brain” of the machine, which is impossible to understand without specific knowledge and proper experience. Therefore, independent repair of this unit is almost impossible. If this happens to your “home assistant,” then all you have to do is call a repair service so that a specialist will first conduct a special diagnostic and then restore the operation of the element or help replace it.

Do not try to repair the control board yourself - this will only damage the part even more.

Therefore, if your SM starts to malfunction during the spin cycle, then this is not yet a reason to call a service center specialist.First, check that there is not too much or too little stuff in the drum, and that no foreign matter has entered the tank. If the cause of the malfunction is a technical element, then you can try to repair or replace it yourself, because you can install new brushes without any experience at all, if you have our instructions at hand.
