Indesit washing machine does not heat water

Indesit washing machine does not heat waterIf the Indesit washing machine does not heat the water, the quality of the wash will drop significantly. The washing machine will not be able to run a program with a high temperature or will spin the laundry at 20-30 degrees. The result is cold and poorly washed clothes, and without repair the situation will only get worse. To restore the machine’s ability to heat water, you need to correctly diagnose the problem. This will be discussed in the article.

What could have happened?

It is wrong to immediately blame the heating element for the lack of heating. Firstly, it is not the only one that can lead to problems with temperature. Secondly, it’s not always a matter of breakdown. Therefore, it is recommended not to rush to disassemble the machine, but to conduct a small investigation.

Some washing programs on Indesit machines do not involve heating the water.

First of all, we pay attention to the dashboard, or more precisely, to the selected washing program. It is possible that the “Delicate”, “Sports Shoes” or “Silk/Curtain” mode was turned on, which does not involve heating the water. It is better to choose “Cotton 60” and check the operation of the machine according to the instructions described below.

If a heating program is turned on, then look at the set temperature. Modern models allow you to change the set parameters, but mechanical regulators do not always work. To check the quality of the setting, you should scroll the selector to a slightly different value and restart the machine. Most likely, there was a banal “glitch” of the system.forgot to set the heat

In any case, it is necessary to check whether Indesit heats up to the specified temperature.Many people think that if at the end of washing the laundry in the drum is cold, then the heater is broken. But this is not so - things are cool, because the final rinse occurs without heating. There is a more reliable and 100% way to diagnose TEN.

  1. Start the wash at 60 degrees (this is the most indicative temperature, but you can choose 45 degrees).
  2. Wait 20-30 minutes.
  3. Touch the glass of the sunroof with your palm. The main thing is to have time to register the heating of the door before the machine enters the rinsing stage.
  4. Assess the degree of heating: if the door is warm, then everything is in order. Cold glass says otherwise.

If the glass remains cold when washed in the “hot” mode, then there are problems with heating the water. Then you need to determine the nature and location of the malfunction. We will tell you further how to act and in what sequence.

Potential problems

With modern Indesit models it is simpler: they automatically detect the missing heating, display the corresponding error on the display and refuse to start the cycle. The rest of the machines do not reveal their position and continue to turn the drum, using cold water instead of hot water. The problem must be solved in any case, since it is not recommended to operate a faulty machine. Otherwise, there is a high probability that the situation will worsen to the point of “fatal outcome” of the equipment.

Indesit washing machines do not heat water due to a faulty heating element, pressure switch, thermostat, or problems with the wiring or board.

Therefore, we do not delay in finding the cause of the missing heating. There are several of them.

  • Faulty pressure switch. When the level sensor is broken, the control board does not receive a signal that the tank is sufficiently full and, therefore, the module does not give a command to heat the water.
  • The wiring connecting the heating element to the board is damaged. Without closing the circuit, the part is not able to work.
  • Heater failure. This happens due to scale, mechanical damage, overheating or short circuit.
  • Thermistor failure. If the sensor that monitors the temperature in the tank fails, the water will not heat up.
  • Failure of the control board. The resistor responsible for communication with the heater has burned out or the contacts have come loose.

To fix the problem, you need to find the damaged area and make the appropriate repairs. The owner of the washing machine can deal with most of the problems described above himself. The main thing is to remember safety precautions and not deviate from the instructions below.

Let's check the heater

First of all, we look at the heater. It is located at the bottom of the unit, directly under the tank. To get to it, you need to unscrew all the retaining screws from the back panel with a Phillips screwdriver and remove it. For convenience, it is recommended to move the washing machine away from the wall or remove it from the unit.

Before any manipulations to disassemble the machine, it is necessary to disconnect the unit from the power supply and turn off the water supply.

As soon as the panel is moved to the side, you will see the heating element, thermistor and all the wiring connected to them. It’s better to stop here and photograph all the connections so as not to make the wrong phases during reassembly. Next we proceed in the following order.heater doesn't work

  1. We release the wiring.
  2. We turn on the multimeter to measure in Ohms, set it to 200 Ohms and connect the probes to the terminals.
  3. We evaluate the indicators on the display. A working heater will give a value of 26-28 ohms. A result of “1” will indicate an internal break in the device, and a “0” will indicate a short circuit in the device.In the last two cases, the heating element will have to be changed, since it will not be possible to repair it.

Next we check for a breakdown in the housing. Set the multimeter to buzzer mode and set up the contact. If you hear a squeaking sound from the probe attached to the terminal, then you cannot do without replacement.

To replace the faulty heating element, you will have to remove it. Sometimes this is difficult to do, since the gasket protecting the device increases in volume and does not allow the part to be removed. To cope with the task, it is recommended to do the following:

  • thoroughly treat the rubber with WD-40 or other technical lubricant;
  • wait 10-15 minutes;
  • disconnect the thermistor;
  • unscrew the bolt holding the heater;
  • swing the heating element and remove it from its seat.

A replacement part is purchased using the serial number stamped on the body. Ideally, you should bring the broken element to the store and ask the consultants to find an analogue. Before installing a new heater, it is recommended to thoroughly clean the seat, and also climb into the tank through the vacated hole with your hand, pulling out all the “goods” that have accumulated there. Afterwards, using the previously taken photographs as a guide, put the machine back together.

Pressostat test

The pressure switch is easier to understand. We unscrew the two screws holding the cover from the back of the case, move it forward, remove it and look for the level sensor. It is located on the right side and looks like a black and white plastic “puck” with a long hose lowered into the tank. Next we proceed like this.

  1. We find a tube with a diameter equal to the sensor fitting.
  2. Disconnect the hose by releasing the clamp.
  3. Insert the tube into the hose and blow lightly.
  4. We listen: if you hear 1-3 clicks, then the contacts of the device work perfectly.problems with the pressostat of the Indesit machine

The verification does not end there.The second step is to inspect all components of the pressure switch for damage, chips, traces of burning and cracks. Next, check to see if the hose is clogged and, if necessary, rinse it under the tap. In the third step, it is recommended to use a multimeter, following the following instructions.

  1. We find the electrical circuit of the unit and find out which contacts to connect to for diagnostics.
  2. Select the “Resistance” mode on the tester.
  3. We connect the probes to the contacts of the pressure switch.
  4. We evaluate the indicators on the display: if the values change, then it’s ok. Otherwise, it will have to be replaced.

Repairing a pressure switch is difficult and pointless - it’s easier and cheaper to buy a new one. The process of dismantling the old sensor is simple: loosen the clamps, remove the chip with the wiring and disconnect the “washer”. A working device is installed in the reverse order. If the heating element and pressure switch pass the test, then the problem is with the control board. There is no need to experiment here - we immediately turn to professionals for high-quality diagnostics.
