The washing machine does not respond to the power button

The washing machine does not respond to the power buttonWhat to do in a situation where the laundry is already put in the drum, the detergent is poured into the tray, and the washing machine does not respond to the power button? If the indication on the dashboard does not light up, the display is not active, and the keys are not pressed, it is easy to guess that the machine is “cut off” from the power supply.

An automatic machine may not turn on for various reasons, most of them are easy to identify and fix with your own hands, at home. We'll tell you where to start diagnosing.

Determining the cause of the defect

Extinguished indicators on the control panel indicate problems with the electrical supply to the device. To put it simply, the current does not reach the “brain” of the washing machine, so the equipment does not start working. In such a situation, you will have to restore the “lost” connection in the circuit. Diagnostics will consist of checking external communications and internal wires, contacts and sensors.

The reasons why the machine cannot turn on are conventionally divided into 2 large groups. The first includes all problems with external communications, for example:

  • interruption of electricity supply in the house or in a separate room;
  • breakdown of the socket to which the washing machine is connected;
  • Damage to the machine's power cord.check the power cord

The second group includes internal breakdowns. This is about:

  • failure of the interference filter (IPF);
  • burnt out or stuck buttons on the dashboard;
  • control module malfunction.

If, after connecting the washing machine to the outlet, the indication on the dashboard does not light up, it means that no current is flowing into the washing machine.

The test starts from simple to more complex.First, one by one, external causes are excluded: the socket and power cord are inspected. Next, you will have to look inside the machine, and at the end, if the problem is not found, diagnose the electronic module.

Let's check the power supply

Often the automatic machine refuses to turn on due to problems with the external power supply. Before you panic, make sure there is light in the room and apartment. Perhaps the power has been turned off throughout the house and you just need to wait until the power comes back on.

Next, pay attention to the electrical panel. Find out if all switches are set to the “working” position. Perhaps, when starting the washing machine, the circuit was overloaded, so the protective shutdown device tripped. It is necessary to turn the machines back on and analyze which electrical appliance in the house should be temporarily disconnected from the network in order to prevent repeated overvoltage and current leakage.the machine worked

Then the socket is inspected. If you find melted plastic or dark spots on its body and smell a burning smell, immediately stop supplying current to the room by clicking the corresponding switch on the panel. The electrical outlet will need to be repaired.

It is forbidden to use an outlet with melted insulation, from which there is smoke or a burning smell - you should immediately turn off the power and call an electrician. When the outlet visually seems intact, try connecting any other electrical appliance to it, for example, a hair dryer. If there is contact, the search for the “problem area” will have to continue.

Noise filter

If no external problems are found, you will have to deal with the washing machine itself. Three elements are responsible for transmitting current inside the automatic machine: a plug, a power cord and a noise filter. All “points” are located nearby, they are checked simultaneously.

The algorithm of actions will be as follows:

  • turn off the power to the washing machine;
  • remove the top cover of the case by unscrewing the two bolts securing it;
  • find the interference filter;interference filter burnt out
  • remove the fasteners securing the network cable;
  • Pull out the cord along with the noise filter and plug.

You can diagnose the parts yourself. First, inspect the plug for damage and signs of fire. Then check the wire itself, you will need a multimeter for this. Switch the tester to buzzer mode and ring the cord for breakdown. If a current leak is detected, the element will have to be replaced.

Do not try to repair the power cord by rewinding it with electrical tape or restoring the insulation by twisting it - this can lead to a repeated break in the circuit and a fire.

Having finished with the wire and plug, we inspect the noise filter. When there is no visible damage, the part is checked with a multimeter. The tester must be switched to resistance measurement mode, and the probes must be applied to the contacts of the element. If the device screen displays zero or one, then the FPS is faulty and will have to be replaced.

The power button is faulty

If you do not find any damage to the surge protector and cord, you will have to check the control panel of the machine. It happens that due to sticking of one or more buttons, a malfunction occurs and the entire “tidy” stops working. More modern washing machines are able to detect such a malfunction and notify the user about it by displaying the corresponding error code on the display.Old-style machines simply cannot cope with the problem and completely stop responding to any key presses.

To check the control panel, you must:change the power button

  • remove the powder receptacle from the housing;
  • unscrew the bolts located around the perimeter of the dashboard;
  • carefully disconnect the “tidy” from the body (there is no need to completely remove the panel, just crawl to its “insides”);
  • switch the multimeter to resistance measurement mode;
  • Place the tester probes against the button contacts (one at a time against each “suspicious” key).

Diagnostics of the control panel is performed with the automatic machine switched on.

First of all, you need to check the “Start/Pause” button. Usually this is what causes problems with turning on the machine. If everything is fine with it, you need to test the other keys on the device one by one.

When the problem is not sticking buttons, all that remains is to check the control module. It’s not worth getting into the “brain” of the washing machine without special knowledge and sufficient experience; you can only aggravate the situation. It is better to entrust diagnostics and repair of the main electronic unit to specialists.
