Samsung washing machine gets stuck on the spin cycle

Perhaps this is a one-time failure, and rebooting the system or eliminating the imbalance in the drum will help, but sometimes a “home assistant” repair is still required.

The most common but common mistakes

An automatic machine can freeze not only because of some problems. Sometimes it's a matter of simple user errors. Therefore, first of all, it is necessary to exclude reasons related to the control of the washing machine. You should:

• see that a washing program has been started that includes a spin cycle. Probably, the selected mode simply does not provide this function. These are algorithms such as “Wool”, “Delicate”, etc. In this case, to solve the problem, enable the “Spin” option additionally;
• Make sure you do not exceed the maximum load load of laundry. If the machine is designed for 6 kg of things, and all 8 kg are compacted into it, of course, it will freeze, starting the most intense stage of the cycle. In such a situation, you need to remove some of the clothes from the drum and start the wash again;
• check that there is no imbalance. Imbalance can occur if a large item, such as a rug or blanket, is washed in the machine. During spinning, the drum rotates at maximum speed, the product clumps into a lump and puts a large load in one place.If you notice that the washing machine is spinning for a long time, pause the cycle and evenly distribute the laundry inside.

Often the Samsung SMA freezes during the spin cycle precisely because of an imbalance in the system.

The problem is more serious than it seemed

First of all, the drum is inspected for the presence of foreign objects that could cause a stop. It could be a coin, a button, a hairpin, or a bra wire.

• shock absorber wear. Over time, the dampers, which absorb increased vibration of the device, break down. Damage to them causes the drum to stop and the machine to freeze. To solve the problem, you will have to install new springs;
• faulty motor or tachometer. Perhaps the engine electronics have failed or the brushes have worn out. The Hall sensor measures the speed of the electric motor, and if it breaks, it can also cause the washing machine to freeze;
• broken pressure switch. The sensor measures the water level in the tank and transmits this information to the SMA control module. If the part does not work, then the washing machine freezes between the “Rinse” and “Spin” stages;
• clog in the drain system. To start spinning, the washing machine must remove waste water from the tank into the sewer.If the liquid drainage is obstructed, the machine will not begin to spin the laundry. In such a situation, you will have to check the garbage filter, drain hose, siphon and sewer pipe for blockages;
• failed control module. The electronic unit may be damaged due to power surges. Also, the board breaks due to moisture getting on it.

Most damage can be repaired with your own hands. For example, there is nothing difficult about replacing a pressure switch or cleaning the elements of the drain system. But if you do not have experience working with electronics, it is better to entrust the repair of the motor and control module to specialists. If the machine is new and still under warranty, call a technician immediately, don’t even try to disassemble the SMA yourself.

There is too much dirt inside the machine

If the machine cannot start spinning, check the drainage system elements. Perhaps a blockage has formed somewhere and the flow of water into the sewer is difficult. Therefore, the machine does not proceed to the next washing stage.

First, inspect the garbage filter. It is located at the bottom of the machine, behind the false panel. Before unscrewing the element, cover the floor under the washer with dry rags, because water may flow out of the hole. Clean the plastic part from dirt, lint and other stuck debris.

Next, inspect the drain hose to see if it is kinked. Feel the corrugation. If you feel a blockage, clean the hose under running warm water.

Also inspect the drain pipe connecting the tank and the pump. Next, check if there is a blockage in the siphon or sewer pipe. If there is one, remove the trash plug.

Dampers are suspect

If you notice that the washing machine vibrates and knocks a lot during operation, you should check the shock absorbers.The springs are located under the SMA tank. The washing machine stops working during the spin cycle when the dampers are worn out, their mounting bolts are damaged, or the rubber seal wears off.

To check the shock absorbers, you must:

• turn off the power to the washing machine;
• remove the top cover of the device by unscrewing the bolts securing it;
• press firmly on the tank, lowering it;
• suddenly remove your hands and observe the movements of the tank.

If the assembly jumps up and stops, then the springs are performing their function. Continuous rocking of the tank will indicate poor condition of the shock absorbers. In this case, the dampers will need to be replaced.

The procedure for replacing shock-absorbing elements depends on the design of each specific Samsung SMA model.

For most Samsung models, the shock absorbers are removed along with the tank. Therefore, to gain access to the dampers, you will have to almost completely disassemble the SMA. Spring mountings also vary, but most often they are fixed with plastic bushings.

The pressure switch is "jamming"

Another reason for a failed spin cycle is a broken pressure switch. The sensor measures the water level in the tank and transmits this information to the control module. If the element does not work correctly, the machine can easily freeze.

Often the problem is the clogged pressure switch pipes, but the water level sensor may fail completely. You can diagnose the element yourself:

• turn off the power to the machine, disconnect it from the water supply and sewerage;
• remove the top panel of the case;
• find the pressure switch;
• disconnect the wires from the level sensor;
• remove the clamps and remove the pressure switch;
• inspect the sensor, blow into its pipe. If the part is working properly, you will hear clicking sounds.

A damaged pressure switch cannot be repaired; the part will need to be replaced.You should buy components based on the model of your Samsung washing machine. Installing a new level sensor is performed in the reverse order. Afterwards, you need to run a test cycle and observe the operation of the device.
