• Clogged drainage system elements. The drain hose of the machine, the garbage filter, the pump, or the pipe that connects the tank and the pump can become clogged. A coin forgotten in a pocket can get stuck inside the washer and become an obstacle to the normal outflow of liquid. When the water drainage is blocked, the machine freezes without starting to rinse. The solution to the problem is to clean the nodes.
• Faulty drain pump. The pump is responsible for pumping water out of the washing machine tank. If the element breaks, the liquid remains inside and the machine cannot proceed to the next stage of the cycle.
• Pressostat. A level sensor that is not functioning correctly transmits unreliable information to the control module.For example, it reports that the tank is empty, but in fact it is full. As a result of this, the “brain” does not activate the drain, and the machine does not start rinsing, but freezes.
• Control module. Rarely, the culprit behind Zanussi SMA freezing is a damaged board. The electronic unit coordinates all processes, so if it breaks down, the washing machine starts to work incorrectly.

Hose or "trash can"

If you find a washing machine frozen during the rinsing stage, you first need to empty the machine. You can remove soapy water through the drain filter - this way you can also check the “trash bin”. The algorithm of actions will be as follows:

• turn off the power to the Zanussi automatic machine;
• turn off the valve responsible for supplying water to the washing machine;
• move the washing machine a little away from the wall;
• find the garbage filter (it is located in the front, in the lower corner behind the false panel or technical hatch);
• place a dry cloth near the machine;
• place a low container under the washing machine at the location of the “trash bin” (it will be needed to collect water);
• unscrew the filter halfway;
• wait until the water drains into the basin;
• remove the trash can completely.

When you drain the water from the tank, the lock will unlock so you can open the door and remove the laundry. After this, clean the drain filter. You can wash the “trash can” only in warm water - when exposed to too high a temperature, the plastic is deformed.

If there are lime deposits on the filter element, you can remove them using citric acid. Soak the “trash can” for 2-3 hours in the “lemon” solution.After this, the filter is washed under running warm water.

It is recommended to clean the drain filter of an automatic machine at least once every 2-3 months.

Next, look into the hole from which the drain filter was removed. If there are any foreign objects there: paper, coins, buttons, take them out. Next, remove dirt from the walls with a damp cloth.

Also inspect the drain hose - feel it along its entire length. Perhaps there will be a blockage in it. Having found the “lump”, disconnect the sleeve from the machine and siphon and rinse under running water. You will probably have to clean the corrugation with metal wire.

The pump has failed

Usually, the drain pump does not fail suddenly - the “symptoms” of its malfunction appear in advance. If you noted that the machine took too long and noisy to pump out water before, then it is quite possible to “sin” on the pump. The element may stop working properly due to:

• blockage;
• breakdowns.

If the problem is clogged, the pump should be cleaned. You can get to the pump through the bottom of the washing machine. The algorithm of actions is as follows:

• de-energize the SMA, disconnect the device from communications;
• lay the washing machine on its side;
• remove the tray (if provided);
• find the pump;
• loosen the fasteners and remove the pump from the machine body.

Inspect the item. It is possible that debris has accumulated in the impeller - then you need to clean the blades. If there is no visual damage, check the pump with a multimeter (to do this, you need to attach the tester probes to its contacts and measure the resistance value). A burnt out drain pump cannot be repaired - the part will need to be replaced.
