How to wash a pea coat in a washing machine?

How to wash a pea coat in the washing machineIt is extremely difficult to clean bulky items by hand - when wet, they are almost impossible to lift. Not everyone can afford dry cleaning, so the only option is to wash a military or police peacoat in the washing machine. This option is easier, simpler and faster, but has its own risks and nuances. We suggest you figure out how to wash a quilted jacket without spoiling the collar, shape and color of the product.

How to wash a peacoat correctly?

It is almost impossible to wash a winter military or police peacoat by hand, so many people opt for machine washing. The main problem is the collar - it does not come off and can be damaged by the wrong program. However, it’s easy to avoid unpleasant “surprises” if you follow the recommendations of experienced housewives. The cycle is configured as follows:

  • program – wool, delicate or handmade (the pea coat will not have time to wash in a short cycle);
  • temperature - up to 30 degrees (in hot water the padded jacket will inevitably “shrink”);set it to 30 degrees
  • rinse – double;
  • spin – minimal (otherwise there is a risk of imbalance due to the large weight of the item and deformation of the collar).

It is advisable to choose a delicate detergent - gel for washing wool or delicate fabrics. It is not recommended to use powders, since the granules do not dissolve well in cold water, remain in the fibers and appear as white spots after drying. Chlorine-based bleaches and other aggressive cleaning ingredients are also prohibited.

The pea coat can be washed at temperatures up to 30 degrees, otherwise the material will shrink!

Before washing, the peacoat is turned inside out, buttoned and placed in a mesh bag.It is important that the capacity of the washing machine allows you to load such bulky items. At the end of the cycle, the wet padded jacket is transferred to the bath, where the moisture is squeezed out of it with gentle movements. Then the jacket is sent to dry - placed on a flat horizontal surface in a ventilated room away from direct sunlight and heaters. Periodically, the product needs to be shaken and turned over, otherwise the insulation will fall off and become crumpled.

After drying, pay attention to the collar. To return it to its original appearance, it is enough to comb the fur using a stiff styling comb. A clothes brush or slicker brush will also do the job.

If you decide to wash by hand

Hand washing a pea coat should take place under similar conditions: cold water, delicate detergents, plenty of rinsing and gentle spinning. It will be safer than using a machine, but it will be much more difficult and longer. Especially if you act alone.

But sometimes hand washing is unavoidable. During service, the peacoat gets very dirty, with complex stains - machine oil, kerosene or blood. It is problematic to remove such contaminants with one machine cycle; it is much more effective to pre-wash the affected areas. We proceed like this:

  • lower the padded jacket into the bath;
  • soak the pea coat for 30-40 minutes in a solution of warm water, vinegar and soft washing gel;
  • drain the water, sprinkle the stains with a delicate detergent and foam with a soft brush;
  • leave the item with foam for another 10-15 minutes;
  • wash off the foam and dirt with a shower head.set the spin speed to 400 rpm

It is not advisable to add powder, since it is difficult to rinse out the granules manually - they remain in the material, clinging to the fibers. It's best to let the water drain and then put the peacoat in the washing machine.Ideally, you need to run a full wash according to the rules described above. If washing helped remove all the stains, then you can limit yourself to the “Rinse + Spin” program. Don’t forget to reduce the speed to 400-800 to eliminate shrinkage and imbalance.

Advice from professionals

When choosing washing conditions for a service uniform, one should not neglect the manufacturer’s recommendations. Each product has a label indicating the optimal temperature, type of cleaning and other important points. Be sure to look at the composition and color of the item - all this will help you wash your peacoat without risks or surprises.

When planning to wash your pea coat, there are a few other things you should pay attention to. We are talking about the quality of water, detergents and type of fabric dyeing. Let's look at each point in more detail.

  1. Water quality. It is no secret that tap water contains impurities of chlorine and aluminum - chemicals based on them are added centrally to clean the system. Hence the increased hardness, due to which the powder dissolves less well, rinses poorly and remains on the fabric as white stains. As a result, the fibers become clogged, the color is washed out, and the pea coat loses its original appearance. The solution would be to install special filters on pipes and taps.

Delicate gel compounds are used to wash outerwear.

  1. Detergents. The ideal option is soft formulations and delicate gels without aggressive whitening components.use washing gel instead of powder
  2. Type of painting of the material. The monochromatic form requires “wet” dyeing and requires “Color” powder. Camouflage is a printed pattern, so a delicate product is needed. When transferring a print through paper, a composition with a color preservation effect is selected.

You can wash a peacoat in the washing machine - you just need to remember a few rules.Then the item will not shrink, the collar will remain the same, and the shape itself will be clean.
