Washing a sweater

Washing a sweaterNew clothes always look so good and neat that you want to wear them without taking them off and be happy about the purchase. However, sooner or later the time comes to wash the item, especially if it is, for example, a jacket. How to wash a jacket in a washing machine so that it looks like new for a long time, and does not become unusable after the first hygiene procedure.

Getting ready to wash

The first thing you need to do before washing is to read the care information from the manufacturer. It is placed on a fabric tag sewn on the reverse side of the sweater. Washing parameters will largely depend on what type of fiber your product is made from. Sweatshirts can be made of wool, cotton, linen or made from synthetic fibers.

The color of the product also matters. White sweaters cannot be washed adjacent to colored items, otherwise this could result in shedding and staining of the white item. In addition, from time to time it is white clothes that need to be washed with the addition of bleach.

So, first you need to find out if your cardigan can be washed in the washing machine. Some products explicitly state that hand wash only is acceptable. Then sort the items by color, and then by acceptable washing parameters.

If the item is made of wool

Of course, the wool itself requires ultra-delicate care. However, there are no things made of 100% wool. Look at the proportions in the composition. If there is more wool in it than other fibers, you will have to wash the jacket by hand, and if the composition is dominated by synthetic fibers (acrylic, for example), then you can use the delicate mode on the washing machine.

Here is a list of recommendations for washing and then drying a woolen jacket.

  • If you put a stain on a wool sweater, before washing it is better to soak it in a basin, adding a stain remover to the water.
  • Woolen items should be soaked and washed at a temperature of 30 degrees.set the temperature to 30 degrees
  • To minimize the risk of fiber damage, turn the cardigan inside out.
  • It is preferable to use liquid gels as a detergent. They are no less effective than powders, but do not leave streaks and are easy to wash out.
  • You cannot twist the item to squeeze out the moisture, just press it down as gently as possible with your hands. If there is excess moisture left, wrap the wet item in a terry towel, which will perfectly absorb the remaining liquid.
  • The product should be dried on a horizontal surface to prevent it from stretching. To avoid the appearance of an unpleasant odor, dry the item completely.

Attention! In addition to the material, the texture of the fabric also affects the drying parameters. For example, knitted items can be cleaned by hand washing, even if the thread contains synthetic fiber. To prevent a handmade product from stretching and becoming damaged, you do not need to wash it in a machine.

Another pressing problem when washing wool is the formation of pills. To avoid this unpleasant phenomenon, you should use detergents for delicate fabrics. They will not only help preserve the appearance of the fabric, but also strengthen the fibers. If there is no such solution, you can make it yourself by mixing soda and plain water in a 1:5 ratio.

Sweatshirts made of angora and cashmere

Cashmere and angora are very expensive fabrics that stand out for their softness and other characteristics.Sometimes it’s simply scary to wash such a thing yourself, since these materials are very capricious. Then dry cleaning will come to the rescue. If you wash at home by hand, use cool water with shampoo dissolved in it.Is it possible to wet cashmere?

After washing, the jacket should be rinsed in cold water and then laid flat to dry. If the item has stretched a little during washing, it can be brought back into shape by ironing through cheesecloth with the iron on low heat.

Important! Do not pull, do not twist, and generally minimize the mechanical impact on the jacket, then it will retain its presentable appearance longer.

Snow-white jacket

Whitening shampoo will help restore the snow-white color of your sweater. Wash your jacket with it manually, but remember that the product should not be too aggressive. Before washing, white items can be soaked in lukewarm water with shampoo for delicate fabrics. Also, many housewives recommend adding a little lemon juice, which promotes whitening and eliminates unpleasant odors.

It is better to wash things by hand using gloves. They will reduce the friction of your hands on clothing and protect your skin from exposure to chemical elements. If you wash your clothes according to all the rules, they will last much longer and will look like new.
