Washing natural fur

Washing natural furFur products require special care. The material is quite specific, so it cannot be washed in the usual way. But what should you do if your fur coat has lost its shine, has an unpleasant smell, or has stains on it? Real fur should be washed carefully. Let's look at the basic recommendations for caring for fur products. We'll tell you how to clean the material so as not to spoil its appearance.

Recommendations for caring for natural fur

You can clean a fur coat or fluffy collar at home. It should be remembered that it is undesirable to subject natural and artificial fur to wet processing. If you ignore this recommendation, the product may become deformed, discolored, and the pile will look untidy after drying. To avoid such consequences, you need to resort to dry cleaning methods.

You should wet natural fur only as a last resort if there are no other options to deal with the stains.

Before you wet a fur item, you should check how the material reacts to water. The test is carried out on a small area. Prepare a solution from the following “ingredients”:

  • water – 1 l;
  • ammonia – 5-7 ml;
  • shampoo.grayness is removed with ammonia

Mix the "ingredients". Dampen a sponge in the resulting solution and wipe a small area on the fur coat with it. Wait half an hour - if after this time the fur looks the same as before, then there is a chance for wet processing of the product. Washing natural fur by completely soaking it in water is strictly prohibited. If the material passes the test, it can be wiped with a sponge dipped in soapy water. In other cases, it is better to resort to dry cleaning methods. Let's look at each method.

Cleaning with flour

You can clean natural and faux fur at home with flour. It doesn’t matter what kind: wheat, corn, oatmeal, rye or rice. You can grind the flakes yourself and use the resulting powder. The algorithm of actions will be as follows:

  • pour flour into a basin (a 10-15 liter container should be one third full);
  • place a fur item in a basin;
  • “dip” a fur coat or collar in flour, sprinkling the item on all sides;wash the fur with flour
  • gently shake the product to get rid of the white powder;
  • hang your fur coat on hangers.

After cleaning with flour, the fur product must be vacuumed or combed with a special comb with wide teeth.

This treatment will help remove dust and debris that has accumulated there from the pile. The method is absolutely safe for fur. Flour will not cause any harm to the material.

Sand cleaning

This method seems strange to many, but sand can be used to thoroughly clean natural fur. The method is quite applicable for washing fur capes, blankets, etc. The algorithm of actions is as follows:

  • wash and sift river sand;
  • pour the sand into a deep frying pan and heat it to a temperature that is pleasant to the touch;
  • lay the fur product on a flat horizontal surface;cleaning a fur coat with sand
  • sprinkle the fur with warm sand;
  • rub the material with gentle movements, as if rubbing sand into the pile;
  • Shake the granules off the already cleaned item.

This method is suitable for products with a small number of seams. For example, for cleaning stoles, fur bedspreads, collars. Since removing sand stuck in the threads will be problematic.

Potato starch and peroxide

Owners of light-colored fox or mink coats are faced with the need to refresh their fur. Hydrogen peroxide can be used for these purposes.The algorithm of actions is as follows:

  • soak a cotton pad and comb in peroxide;
  • comb light fur with a comb;
  • Apply a cotton swab to the most contaminated areas.clean the fur with starch

Potato starch will help you clean a mink or silver fox fur coat. Proceed like this:

  • lay the item on a horizontal surface;
  • sprinkle the fur with starch;
  • rub the white powder into the pile with gentle movements;
  • shake the fur product.

All dust and dirt will be removed from the fur product along with the starch. It is better to shake things out on the balcony or outside. If necessary, you can vacuum the lint.

Cleaning with sawdust

Items made from muskrat or astrakhan fur can be easily cleaned with sawdust. You need to do this:

  • buy sawdust from a pet store or prepare it yourself;
  • moisten them with purified gasoline;clean the fur coat with sawdust
  • while hanging, treat the fur product with wet sawdust;
  • shake the item and comb the pile with a comb.

The method is applicable for hard pile. To clean fur, you can only use sawdust from hardwood trees; coniferous trees are not suitable.

Wash in bran

Fox fur can be cleaned well with wheat bran. It is necessary to pour them into a frying pan and heat them to a temperature that is pleasant to the touch. Next, the product is laid out horizontally and sprinkled with flakes. Afterwards, you need to go through the pile with a soft brush.
