Washing eco-leather dresses

Washing eco-leather dressesEco-leather dresses are at the peak of popularity today. They are stylish, elegant and practical. This material is quite finicky - it is very easy to damage it if washed or dried incorrectly. We will tell you how to care for your products so that they retain their original appearance for a long time.

Is this material washable?

To understand whether a dress made of eco-leather can be washed, you should study the label of the item. The manufacturer indicates on the label the basic recommendations for caring for the product. It's so easy to find out:

  • Is it permissible to wash the item, if so, is it possible to load the dress into an automatic washing machine;
  • what should be the water temperature when washing;
  • how to squeeze material;
  • Is automatic drying allowed?
  • how to properly iron fabric.

If the label indicates that washing a faux leather dress is prohibited, then you will have to clean the item using the “dry” method.

Eco leather is a synthetic material. During production, a polyurethane film is applied to the fabric base. And it is this coating that, if not properly cared for, can crack and lose its appearance. That's why it's so important to follow the basic recommendations for cleaning faux leather dresses.

Depending on the information on the label, you will be allowed to wash a leather dress in one of three ways:

  • partially, treating only contaminated areas;
  • completely, but on the hands;
  • entirely, throwing the item into the machine.Features of eco-leather material

The acceptable cleaning method directly depends on the strength of the material. Therefore, if there is no tag on the dress, try to evaluate the item yourself. Automatic washing is possible for single-color thick fabric without any decorative stripes.

You should resort to hand washing if:

  • the dress has textile inserts;
  • the product is decorated with rhinestones, beads, embroidery, applique;
  • the material has spikes or buttons.

If you are in doubt about how to care for a dress made of eco-leather, it is better to wash it by hand. Let's look at the features of each of the possible cleaning methods. We'll tell you how to properly wring out and dry things made from such material.

We risk washing by hand

To wash your dress yourself, prepare a basin and detergent. Eco-leather is quite easy to spoil, so be sure to follow a few rules during the cleaning process:

  • use a gentle detergent, without chlorine and other aggressive components;
  • Avoid using bleach, conditioner, and stain remover;
  • make sure that the water temperature is up to 30°C;badges on clothes
  • Do not twist the material when spinning.

The algorithm of actions will be as follows:

  • fill a basin with cool water;
  • pour in cleaning agent. It is better to avoid powders - granules do not dissolve well in cold water and become clogged with fabric fibers, leaving white stains. Preference should be given to liquid or gel detergent compositions;
  • if there are stains on eco-leather, remove them in advance;
  • turn the item inside out and immerse it in soapy water;
  • Lightly rub the contaminated areas: collar, armpits, cuffs. Do not rub eco-leather with force - the material may crack;
  • rinse the item several times in clean water;
  • “dry” the dress with a towel and hang it to dry.

All locks, buttons and hooks on the dress must be fastened so that they do not tear the eco-leather during washing.

There is nothing difficult about manually cleaning a dress.The main thing is not to rub the material with force and not to twist it when squeezing. The process itself will take you no more than 10 minutes.

Let's risk throwing it into the machine

Modern automatic machines have programs specifically for caring for “capricious” fabrics. They involve heating water to a temperature of 30°C and do not involve spinning. You can wash a faux leather dress on the “Wool” or “Silk” mode.choose the Silk program

Be sure to check the spin settings. It is advisable to disable it. If this is not possible, set the speed to 400 per minute. Automatic drying of eco-leather is prohibited.

The washing algorithm will be as follows:

  • check the pockets of the item, turn it inside out;
  • load the dress into the drum of the machine;
  • add detergent to the cuvette. Not dry granules, but a gel or liquid for delicate fabrics;
  • select and run the appropriate program, remembering to activate the “No spin” function.

After completing the cycle, you must immediately remove the dress from the drum and lightly squeeze it with your hands. Next, the item needs to be hung on hangers for further drying.

Cleaning the item locally

If there is a small stain on a dress, it is not necessary to wash the entire item. In this case, it is better to clean the material manually, treating only the contaminated area. We'll tell you how to do this.

Before cleaning your dress, be sure to test any product used on the most inconspicuous area.

Sometimes in the process of producing dresses, low-quality dyes are used, which are erased during local cleaning. To prevent this from happening, check how the product will act on the material. Select and process an area on the reverse side that is hidden from prying eyes.

Many stains can be removed from eco-leather with a simple damp cloth. If you can’t wipe off the stain this way, prepare a soap solution - dilute gel or liquid soap in water. Next, soak a sponge in it and treat the leatherette.local cleaning of eco-leather

For more difficult stains, you can make an alcohol solution. Mix water and rubbing alcohol in a one to one dosage. Use a cloth soaked in liquid to clean the eco-leather.

After local cleaning, the dress should be wiped with a damp cloth, then wiped dry. It is better to spray the item with a special water-repellent aerosol. Due to the invisible protective film, the material will get less dirty.

Drying the dress correctly

It is equally important to properly dry a leatherette dress. This is the only way to preserve the shape and appearance of the item. Drying eco-leather occurs as follows:

  • After washing, lay the item on a towel to drain off excess water;
  • hang the slightly dried dress on hangers (it is most convenient to place the product above the bathtub);
  • straighten the material so that there are no wrinkles.

Next, the dress is left in this position until completely dry. You cannot hang eco-leather items on radiators or near heaters. Drying with a hot hairdryer is also prohibited. High temperature exposure will lead to cracking of leatherette.drying on the radiator is prohibited

Eco-leather does not need to be treated with special creams, like natural leather. The material will not absorb oil. If you have already oiled the dress, blot off the excess with a napkin.

In general, leatherette does not absorb water, and the main goal is to dry the textile base of the dress and the lining. Therefore, an item turned inside out dries faster. It is better to protect the product from direct sunlight - the fabric fades under the influence of ultraviolet radiation.

If after several washes the eco-leather dress becomes dull, you can treat it with special paint. When purchasing a product, make sure that it has a mark that allows the substance to be used on leatherette.

In fact, washing a dress made from eco-leather is easy. The main thing is to follow the basic recommendations. It is important to remember that such material cannot be rubbed, twisted during spinning, or immersed in hot water. Drying on radiators and near heating appliances is also prohibited. The preferred method is manual cleaning of leatherette.
