Washing the Alize Puffy blanket

Washing the Alize Puffy blanketTurkish Alize Puffy is becoming more and more popular. Everything is created from a velvety delicate thread: clothes, toys, carpets and blankets. The simplicity of knitting is also attractive: ready-made loops are “assembled” by hand, without the use of knitting needles or a hook. There is only one drawback - care, since products made from unusual materials require special washing. Let's figure out how to wash a blanket made from Alize Puffy yarn, maintaining its shape, softness and color.

Is it permissible to use a “washing machine”?

Items made from Alize Puffy yarn are allowed to be washed in an automatic machine - there is a corresponding note in the instructions. But only subject to several conditions. So, machine cleaning is carried out:

  • on the “Delicate”, “Handmade” or “Wool” program;
  • at temperatures up to 40 degrees (optimal value - 30);set it to 30 degrees
  • with a minimum spin of 400-600 rpm;
  • using special liquid detergents (powders are prohibited, as granules get stuck in the binding).

Products made from Alize Puffy yarn can be washed in an automatic machine, but only on a delicate program!

Ideally, it is better to refuse a washing machine, choosing it only for cleaning bulky items - rugs, blankets and sweaters. For small woolen items, hand cleaning is considered preferable, as the item shrinks and rubs less. In the machine, you cannot control the degree of impact - the program erases according to a given algorithm.

Traditional wash

If you need to wash a small blanket, it is better to do it manually. This option is more delicate - there are fewer risks for the item. However, there are rules here too. It is recommended to adhere to the following instructions:

  • fill the bath with water (about 1/3 of the volume);
  • adjust the water temperature within 30-40 degrees;
  • dissolve the gel for washing woolen items;
  • dip the blanket in the soapy solution;foam the product in the basin
  • start washing without soaking (with gentle movements for 15 minutes, the product is wrinkled and “unrolled”, like in the drum of a washing machine);
  • drain dirty water;
  • take a new portion of water (can be cold);
  • repeat rinsing several times until the foam disappears;
  • empty the bathtub, leaving the blanket at the bottom;
  • squeeze out the product by pressing on the knitting (you can’t twist the yarn, just crumple it!);
  • Dry the blanket by spreading it on a horizontal drying rack.

When wet, the blanket becomes very heavy. It can be difficult to carry the item to the dryer, so it is better to enlist an assistant. To speed up drying, you can “squeeze” the bedspread in the washing machine at minimum speed.

Blanket after washing: reviews from housewives

Anna:

“I knitted a blanket from Alize Puffy in winter and used it as a bedding for my child’s sled. It wasn’t possible to do much riding with the blanket, since there was little snow, but I still had to wash it. There was no heavy dirt on the knitting, but I wanted to get rid of street dirt and dust.

I washed it in an automatic machine, not without fear. I was afraid for both the item and the washing machine itself. I first read the reviews, which were quite opposite: for some the product was frayed, for others everything went fine. I decided to try it, chose the “Volume Items” mode, set the spin cycle to 800 rpm, added liquid powder for colored laundry and filled in a quarter cap of conditioner.

Immediately after washing, the blanket looked ugly. Wet plush yarn becomes ruffled and untidy. I dried the blanket on the door, it was completely dry in 3 hours.However, it didn’t look any better, and smoothing it by hand didn’t help either—the pile remained untidy. I solved the problem with a cat slicker: I “walked” through the yarn crosswise. As a result, the loops fluffed up and softened.

I conclude that Alize Puffy can be washed. After the machine it looks the same and has not lost its original softness.”

Gwalchka:

“I knitted a blanket from Puffy measuring 190x180, it turned out to be a “king size” for a double bed. When washing the bedspread, there was only one problem - I needed a machine with a depth of 60 cm. My voluminous product did not fit into the narrow machine; I needed an 8 kg drum. I didn’t dare wash it by hand, I understood that it would be very difficult, after all, it’s “king size”. There were no more problems: I turned on a delicate program, where the temperature was 30-40 degrees and a small spin. The yarn dried in 4 hours in a horizontal position. It survived the cleaning calmly, without becoming deformed or unraveling. Remained just as soft.”

Oksana Makarova:

“Washing the Alize Puffy blanket turned out to be a nightmare for me. I washed it in the washing machine, then by hand. Not only could I barely pull it out of the drum, but it became too wet to lift. Afterwards he did bad push-ups! I crushed it, but it was of no use, the water took a long time to drain... I straightened it along the bottom of the bathtub, then put it on a bucket. I waited for more than a day, and only then was I able to start drying.plaid Alize

The blanket also took a long time to dry. In the end, I spent about 3 days washing and drying! And for what? To make the bedspread rough! If before it was downy, soft and airy, now it is hard and hard. It also looks sloppy. I am glad that it retained its shape, since it was not warped, the dimensions remained the same, the loops did not come out. But the yarn itself is no longer the same.

Maybe I washed it wrong.But I was guided by the label, where the manufacturer indicated the care instructions. I didn’t like it, I was very nervous and wasn’t happy with the final result. I decided for myself that I would get dirty less so that I would wash less often.”

Alyona:

“I was unlucky, two of the five skeins of Alize Puffy yarn I bought turned out to be dirty. The threads turned gray-brown instead of light purple. Plus I was knitting a blanket for a child, so I couldn’t do without washing.

Followed the instructions on the package. Washed by hand. The bedspread was 80x80 cm, so there were no particular difficulties with washing. It's just hard to lift a wet thing. I didn’t squeeze or twist the product at all, I just scrunched it a couple of times. I haven’t hung it yet, but put it on a floor dryer, horizontally. It took a long time to dry, more than a day. Then I combed it and fluffed it up.”
