The dryer turns off prematurely

It's quite annoying when your dryer switches off before finishing the cycle. The reasons for this “behavior” may be different. The issue may be a breakdown of the heating element, the impossibility of removing condensate, or insufficient voltage. Let's figure out why the dryer stops working ahead of time and what to do in such a situation.

What causes the dryer to suddenly lose power?

If you find that your dryer turns off prematurely, do not rush to panic. The problem is not always in the machine itself; sometimes the cause of the problem is external factors. For example:

• errors when connecting the device;
• low or too high voltage;
• faulty socket.

First of all, check whether the machine is connected to the electrical network correctly. To ensure that the dryer operates without interruption, you must not connect it through extension cords or adapters. The voltage at the power point should be 200-240 V.

To power the dryer, it is recommended to install individual wiring with the required cable cross-section.

The next factor that can provoke a sudden shutdown of the dryer is low or excessive voltage. If there are sudden changes in the power supply, the security system forcibly stops the operation of the device. To get rid of this problem, it is enough to buy and install a stabilizer that protects against power surges.

If the dryer turns off due to power surges, the corresponding error code is displayed on the device screen. Therefore, if the device suddenly stopped working and displayed a combination of numbers and letters, decipher it using the instructions for the equipment.

A faulty socket can also cause the machine to turn off. To check if this is the case, connect any other household appliance to it. For example, an electric kettle or a hairdryer. Observe whether the equipment will work correctly.

If the shutdown was a one-time event, try restarting the machine. Unplug the power cord from the outlet, wait 20-25 minutes and turn on the device again. If the dryer then runs the cycle normally, it means there was a random system failure.

Dryer can't warm up

If external factors are excluded, then the problem is in the dryer itself. The device will turn off when the temperature required for drying clothes is not maintained for some reason. In this case, the “brain” detects a malfunction and stops the operation of the device.

The temperature regime may be violated:

• due to a breakdown of the heating element;
• if the temperature sensor fails;
• in case of difficulty in draining condensate;
• due to fan failure;
• if the control module is faulty;
• when overheating protection is triggered.

In this case, equipment repair will be required. If the dryer is still under warranty, then do not even try to repair it yourself, but immediately call a service center specialist. If the warranty period has passed, you can try to diagnose the machine at home.

We test the equipment ourselves

A complete diagnosis of the device will help you find out why the machine turns off. During the work, you need to have Phillips and slotted screwdrivers, as well as a multimeter on hand. First of all, the electronic module of the dryer is checked.

Before proceeding with the diagnosis, turn off the power to the dryer.

To check the control module:

• remove the top cover of the case by unscrewing a pair of bolts holding it;
• find the electronic unit (this is a board with many wires connected to it);
• take a multimeter and switch it to resistance measurement mode;
• check the resistance between the contacts responsible for the operation of the heating element (usually pins 5 and 6);
• ring the remaining contacts one by one to make sure the module is working properly.

If there is no resistance between the contacts, or it is equal to infinity, then the part is faulty. You will need to either clean the pins and tracks, or replace the semiconductor element. As a last resort, a new control module is purchased and installed.

If the electronic unit is fully operational, check the machine for leaks. First, carefully inspect the drum seal. This is a seal that frames the hatch for loading laundry. If you find cracks or other defects on the elastic, replace it.

Be sure to check the quality of the sealing. Normally, water should collect inside the machine and be discharged into a special container for condensate. If the dryer body is not sealed, moisture will leak out of the device. The protective mechanism, noticing this, will turn off the operation of the device.

Condensate drainage may be difficult if the fluff filter is clogged. So be sure to check if your dryer is clogged with debris. It is recommended to clean the filter element after each use of the device.

It's also worth checking your dryer thermostat. For this:

• Use a screwdriver to unscrew the screws holding the back panel of the machine;
• find the temperature sensor (it is located near the blower fan and has an oval shape);
• disconnect the wires from the thermostat that secure it to the heating element;
• measure the electrical resistance of the thermostat with a multimeter.

To measure the resistance of the sensor, apply the multimeter probes to the contacts from which the wires were disconnected. The tester should show the value “0”. If the number on the display of the device is close to zero, we can say that the correct current is flowing through the thermostat. When the number is significantly greater than zero or tends to infinity, the part will have to be replaced.

To replace, you must purchase original spare parts specifically for your dryer model. During repairs, be sure to follow basic safety regulations. When disconnecting parts and wiring, it is better to take control photos so as not to make mistakes when subsequently assembling the device.
