How to install a washing machine so it doesn't jump during the spin cycle

Almost every new washing machine accelerates to a speed of 800-1000 rpm during spinning. It is because of this that it is very important to install the washing machine correctly so that the resulting centrifugal force is effectively absorbed by counterweights and shock absorption. If the machine is installed incorrectly, excessive vibration will cause the “home assistant” to jump, which is why the user risks damaging not only expensive household appliances, but also the floors. This behavior indicates that something is wrong with the equipment, so urgent diagnostics are needed. We will analyze this situation in detail and what you can do about it yourself without involving an expert.

The newly purchased car is “jumping”

In the case where the washing machine was just purchased and installed, incorrect installation is most likely to blame. Installing a washing machine at home is a fairly simple process, but even it has its own subtleties that must be taken into account so that it does not jump during the spin cycle.

First of all, you should check the transportation bolts - this is one of the most common situations that new SM users unknowingly encounter. These bolts are needed in household appliances so that during transportation the drum and tank, which are loosely secured in the body, are not damaged. To ensure that no elements of the device fail during delivery, transportation bolts secure key elements in a stationary position.

Running household appliances with these bolts is strictly prohibited, because this can not only damage a number of internal components of the washing machine, but also void the manufacturer’s warranty. Therefore, if the machine vibrates excessively during the first working cycle, check whether you have removed these bolts. They are very easy to find - they are installed on the back wall of the washing machine. If you have Miele brand equipment, then pay attention to the special mounting tubes hidden behind the decorative hatches.

SM's legs got twisted

Another problem that can be easily fixed at home without calling a service center. It can appear either immediately after installation or over time. This is due to the fact that sometimes users do not secure the legs of the washing machine with the locknut, which is screwed at the base.

Not every model has a lock nut, which is why this problem arises so often over time.

Before starting the device, you must check whether the equipment is level. You can verify this using a standard building level, which you just need to place on top of the washing machine. If something is wrong, then twist the legs so that the “home assistant” stands perfectly straight. If your machine has lock nuts, then they must be secured so that the legs do not unscrew during spinning during vibration. The more the legs unwind due to vibration, the stronger this same vibration will become, aggravating the situation again and again.

This is why you need to purchase lock nuts yourself if they were not included with the washing machine. You can find them in any hardware store or on the Internet.

Problems with the floor or flooring

Another common situation is related to what the machine is installed on. It can be in the bathroom, kitchen or hallway - it’s not that important. What's more important is whether the floor is suitable for appliances.

• It should be without drops. You can evaluate them using the same building level, or using a plate of water, by the position of which you can detect differences.
• The coating should not be slippery, so if it has this property, then it is worth placing a rubber mat under the unit, or buying special rubber pads for the legs.

The skew of the floor surface should not be more than 2 degrees so that the washing machine does not touch walls, other household appliances and other objects during intensive spinning.

• Wooden floors, parquet and laminate should also be excluded, because they are very unstable. If there is no other placement option in the house, then you will have to strengthen the floors.
• It is better to place the “home assistant” on tiles, for example, porcelain stoneware or concrete.

Do not underestimate the importance of the floor covering for the efficient operation of the washing machine, because the washing machine can only be installed correctly on suitable floors.

Don't overload your machine

Finally, if equipment begins to suffer from increased vibration, then the load should be analyzed. When the abnormal behavior of the washing machine is typical only for a full drum, then you can try to wash fewer things at a time. Of course, underloading has a bad effect on the equipment, but this does not mean that it is worth processing all the dirty clothes in the house at once in one working cycle.

Overloading is considered a much more dangerous situation than underloading.The latter will only cause you to waste water, electricity and detergents, but nothing bad will happen to the equipment itself. Modern machines are designed to work even without laundry at all, for example, in diagnostic or cleaning mode.

But if you independently allow a serious overload, adding, for example, 10 kilograms of dirty laundry to the drum with a maximum capacity of 8 kilograms, then you will start a chain reaction - increased vibration and jumping, which can cause damage to the bearings and shock-absorbing mechanism.
