How to start drum cleaning in an LG washing machine?

How to start drum cleaning in an LG washing machineThe drum in a washing machine is considered one of the most vulnerable parts to contamination. Grease, stains, hair, wool, lint - all this gets into the cylinder, and here it is mixed with detergents and impurities from the water supply. As a result, dirt sticks to the walls of the container, covering it with a thick soap and limescale coating. It is not difficult to remove dirt if you turn on the drum cleaning in the LG washing machine - a special system mode. Let's figure out how this program works and what alternatives there are.

Activating the cleaning mode

Modern LG washing machines can clean themselves using a special mode. It is called “Drum Cleaning” and is a high-temperature cycle lasting 90 minutes. The program is activated by pressing certain keys and runs “idle”, without loading laundry. Detergent is a must.

Instructions for activating the “Drum Cleaning” mode for LG:

  • connect the washing machine to the electrical network;
  • make sure the drum is empty;
  • pour a special cleaner for a washing machine into the main compartment of the powder receptacle;
  • start the system by clicking on the “Start” button;
  • wait for the sound signal;
  • find the keys with the “*” icon on the dashboard;
  • hold down both stars and hold them for 3-5 seconds;
  • activate the program with the “Start” button.buttons that start drum cleaning

The washing machine will do the rest itself: it will block the hatch, heat the machine to 60-90 degrees and wash the drum. The cycle lasts about 90 minutes and ends with the usual sound signal. Afterwards you will need to open the door and let the machine dry.

LG washing machines have a self-cleaning mode - the “Drum Cleaning” program.

If there is a lot of cleaner left on the drum walls, it is recommended to run an additional rinse. It is worth understanding that to clean the machine, aggressive cleaning components are used, which during further washing can get on the fabric and ruin it.

Cleaning the machine with soda

If you use the drum cleaning function correctly, there will be no problems with “cleaning” your LG. In the absence of such a regime, you will have to do it the old fashioned way - wash the machine manually. To save money, it is recommended to give preference to baking soda.

Baking soda or sodium bicarbonate has long been proven to be an effective and safe cleaner. It can be used to clean countertops, sinks, kettles, tile joints and large household appliances, such as a washing machine. White powder can eliminate both soap scum and dirt, as well as lime deposits, fungus and unpleasant odors.

The instructions for cleaning the drum with soda are as follows:cleaning the machine with soda

  • take 0.5 kg of soda and divide it into two equal portions;
  • pour the first portion into the main compartment of the powder receptacle, the second into the drum;
  • set any high-temperature mode (with a heating temperature of 60 degrees);
  • turn off spin;
  • activate double rinse;
  • run the program.

For comprehensive cleaning of the washing machine drum, you will need 0.5 kg of soda.

One cycle with soda is enough to remove plaque, scale and dirt from the cylinder walls. Also, excess debris will be cleaned from the remaining components of the machine: the heater, pipes and tank. Sodium bicarbonate is able to clean even a thick layer of mud deposits, which will have a positive effect on the performance of equipment.

It is better not to limit yourself to internal cleaning. It is recommended to immediately wash the washing machine and the outside. It is necessary to dissolve 100 grams of soda in a liter of water and add dishwashing gel. The sponge is dipped into the resulting solution, after which the body of the machine is cleaned. At the “finish”, remove the foam and wipe with a dry cloth.

Let's use lemon

Another working folk remedy for scale, plaque and unpleasant odor is citric acid. In terms of effectiveness, “lemon” is better than soda and vinegar, as it is able to dissolve fossilized lime and eliminate mold. Especially if you use it together with sodium bicarbonate and vinegar essence. To clean the lemon drum, you must strictly adhere to the following sequence:cleaning with citric acid

  • take 150-250 g of citric acid or a commensurate volume of freshly squeezed citrus juice without dyes and preservatives;
  • mix with 100 g of baking soda;
  • connect the machine to the electrical network;
  • make sure the drum is empty;
  • activate any mode with heating at 90 degrees;
  • wait until the washer fills the drum;
  • pause the program;
  • pour lemon into the dispenser;
  • continue the cycle;
  • after 15 minutes, stop washing and leave the machine for 1-1.5 hours;
  • after 90 minutes continue the program;
  • when switching to rinsing, mix citric acid with vinegar and pour the resulting solution into the central cuvette of the tray.

After completing the cycle, repeat the rinsing and dry the machine. We also check the cuff and drum of the washer - perhaps there are pieces of scale stuck in the folds and holes.

Internal white treatment

White is effective in removing dirt and mold. Bleach is actively used not only for sanitizing rooms and bleaching clothes, but also for cleaning washing machines.In any case, there are four important points to remember:clean the machine with white

  • You can work with white only with gloves;
  • the product is effective only in cold water (when heated above 40 degrees, the cleaning properties of the liquid are lost);
  • white disinfects, kills fungus and removes dirt, but does not dissolve scale;
  • Do not allow bleach to come into contact with clothing (the aggressive liquid will discolor the fabric).

When cleaning with bleach, use only cold water!

To clean the drum you will need about 200-250 ml of white. It is better to add the product with a delay: let the machine fill the tank, and then pour the bleach into the powder receptacle. Next, it is advisable to turn off the equipment and leave it for 5-7 minutes, during which the bleach will “pass” through all components of the unit. Then the program runs further.

When washing with white, the drum should be empty, and heating should be limited to 30-40 degrees. The “sanitation” of the washing machine is repeated no more than once every six months.
