How to choose a washing machine by size?

Installing a washing machine is not as simple as it seems. You need to find a suitable place for the unit in the apartment so that communications can be easily installed there, the floors can be leveled there, and measurements must be taken carefully so that you can then select a washing machine based on size. In this matter, even the type of loading matters: vertical or horizontal, since the parameters of these machines are very different. In general, there are enough subtleties.

Dimensions of front loading machines

Front loading is more widely used, so let's start with that. The niche for such a SM must be at least 60 centimeters wide, and the height of the place must be at least 85 centimeters. With depth, everything is not so clear, since it depends on the loading volume and the design of the drum. There are shallow “washers” (from 33 centimeters), although the depth of the average model starts from 45 cm. Capacious units with a load of 10-12 kg can be as deep as they are wide - from 60 cm. Machines with a load of over 7 kg are always very deep , so it will not be possible to place them in a narrow niche.

Attention! Select a niche for the “washing machine” taking into account the fact that there will still be drain hoses located at the back, so add at least 5 centimeters to the depth of the proposed “washing machine”. The same applies to the width of the niche; it is better to take it with a reserve.

The space around the unit should be as spacious as possible, since during the spin cycle the machine shakes, and if it is pressed tightly against the walls, this will have a bad effect on both its internal parts and the coating of the body. Also, do not forget that the front doors open from the front, so there should also be enough space in front of the car to open the hatch, approach it, take out laundry, and so on. Usually the depth is made greater for reasons of interior beauty. If part of the machine protrudes forward from the three-sided niche, it does not look entirely aesthetically pleasing. Dimensions of top loading machines

It is more difficult to fit a top-loading machine into furniture, since its hatch is located on top. Some people resort to using special folding countertops, but this method of installing a washing machine is not suitable for everyone.

The width of the vast majority of “verticals” is 40 centimeters, and there is no need to prepare a niche for them with a large margin, since they do not move that much during operation. The depth of machines with vertical loading is also standard and, as a rule, does not exceed 60 centimeters. The units differ only in height, but again, the average parameter varies in the range of 87.5-90 cm.

Not everyone likes machines with this type of loading, since the “frontal” ones can be used as shelves, put something light on them, or hang shelves above the machine.But, as you can see, finding a place for a front-loading machine is a little more difficult and needs to be prepared more carefully.
