Replacing motor brushes on an Electrolux washing machine

Replacing motor brushes on an Electrolux washing machineElectric brushes are an indispensable element of the commutator motor of a washing machine. The part looks like a graphite tip with a spring. It is designed to supply electrical energy to the rotor. With constant use, over time, it becomes necessary to replace the motor brushes on the Electrolux washing machine. Let's look at what signs indicate a malfunction and severe wear of components, and figure out how they can be replaced.

How do faulty brushes manifest themselves?

In most cases, the need to replace a part appears 7-10 years after purchasing the equipment. However, if you actively use the washing machine and run the wash every day, the graphite base can wear off in 5 years, or much earlier. The device itself will notify the attentive owner that the electric brushes have worn out. You can recognize this by a number of characteristic signs:The machine does not spin clothes

  • the machine froze, and there were no power outages, the wires were not pinched, there was no mechanical damage to the cable;
  • when the drum rotates during the washing process, grinding or other extraneous sounds are heard;
  • The engine speed decreases, so the washing machine does not spin clothes well;
  • When operating household appliances, a burning smell appears;
  • An error appears on the screen indicating a problem with the engine.

The listed signs can be observed in combination, several at once or one at a time. In order to make sure that the problem is in the electric brushes, you will have to look inside the device.Changing a part is not difficult; almost every owner can do it at home.

Important! If only one electric brush is damaged, both will have to be replaced at once.

What is needed for repair?

First, you should purchase exactly the same brushes that were in the Electrolux machine. Then you need to prepare the necessary tools, with the help of which even an inexperienced user can cope with the task. For repairs you will need:

  • several screwdrivers with tips of different shapes;
  • pencil or felt-tip pen;
  • 8mm TORX wrench.

Then you should disconnect the machine from the power supply and turn off the shut-off valve. Then the inlet hose is removed. You need to be careful because water will pour out of it. The user needs to remove the garbage filter and clean the hole in which it was located from dirt.

All preparatory activities have been completed. Now it is enough to move the washing machine away from the wall and provide yourself with access to the back side. Finally you can start replacing the brushes.

Work progress

Since the electric brushes are located in the commutator motor, it is necessary to get to it first. You should remove the top cover of the machine and disconnect the back panel of the case. The motor can be seen just under the tank. Further actions:

  • Carefully remove the drive belt;
  • record the wiring diagram in the photo;
  • disconnect the contacts and wires that are connected to the engine;
  • unscrew the bolts that secure the motor;
  • remove the electric motor from the housing.

process of replacing brushes on an Electrolux engine Then the electric brushes are replaced. These parts are located on the sides of the motor. In order to remove them, you must:

  • unfasten the wire;
  • move the contact down;
  • remove the brushes by stretching the spring.

The new part is placed in place of the worn one with the tip in the socket. Next, the spring is compressed and installed. The electric brush is covered with a contact and the wire is connected. The second electric brush is changed in exactly the same way.

After all the above manipulations, the electric motor is mounted in its place using bolts. The main thing is to connect the wiring correctly, for which it is recommended to take preliminary photographs. Then the drive belt is tightened, the back panel and the top cover of the machine are installed.

The equipment can again be moved close to the wall and connected to communications. After replacing the electric brushes, noise may be observed for some time during washing. The components will gradually “grind in” and the extraneous sound will disappear.
