Replace UBL on a top-loading washing machine You can replace the UBL on a top-loading washing machine yourself, without contacting a service center for help. The work will take only 15-20 minutes. Before you begin repairs, it is worth understanding how to properly dismantle the lock. We’ll figure out what tools you’ll need and tell you in detail how to remove the old one and install a new blocker.

Changing the UBL on the “vertical” ARDO

To replace the locking device on an ARDO washing machine, you only need a screwdriver. Having prepared the tool, you can work on the machine: turn off the power, disconnect it from the water supply and sewerage, move it away from the wall to have free access to all sides of the case. The further algorithm of actions will be as follows:

remove the side walls of the case; to do this, unscrew the screws holding the panels;
at the back of the case, remove three bolts securing the console with the “tidy”;
on the right and left, unscrew three more screws - they hold the entire top cover;
carefully slide the cover back and lift it up;
find the hatch locking device, it is located under the top panel, in front;
unscrew the 3 bolts that secure the plastic protective “shell” in which the lock-lock is “hidden”;
unhook the wiring from the lock contacts and pull out the UBL.

Before disconnecting the wires from the UBL, take a photo of their connection diagram so as not to make a mistake when installing a new blocker.

Inspect the UBL - sometimes you can see obvious signs of damage on its surface. In most cases, the lock looks working from the outside, and you can only determine whether it is working using a multimeter.If the device confirms a breakdown, the blocker will have to be replaced.

A burnt lock cannot be repaired. It is necessary to buy a new UBL based on the model and serial number of the washing machine. The cost of the Ardo vertical blocker is low - therefore, at the first sign of a malfunction, it is better to immediately replace the part.

Installation of the UBL is performed in the reverse order. The new lock is placed in a plastic protective “shell”, wires of the corresponding color are connected to the contacts (it is better to focus on the photo taken earlier). Next, all the removed screws are screwed into place one by one.

After assembling the case, you need to check whether the UBL works. Bring the machine to the communications, plug it in and run a test wash. If the vertical cover is locked, it means the job was done correctly.

Changing the lock on the vertical Whirlpool

Depending on the model of the top-loading washing machine, the UBL may be located in different places. On Whirlpool machines, the lock is not under the top cover, as on Ardo, but on the side, on the right side. To dismantle an element, you must:

disconnect the machine from the network;
turn off the tap responsible for the water supply;
disconnect the drain and inlet hoses;
move the “vertical” so that you have free access to all sides of the case;
Unscrew the bolts holding the right wall of the case and remove the panel;
find the UBL, it is located on top, in the corner, closer to the front wall of the machine;
pull the blocker out of the housing with a sharp movement;
take a photo of the wiring diagram;
disconnect the wires from the blocker.

In the case of Whirlpool machines, everything is even simpler - you don’t have to remove the instrument console and touch the top cover.It is enough to remove only one side wall of the machine. Even a beginner will spend no more than 15 minutes replacing the blocker.

It is not practical to repair a faulty blocker; it is easier to buy and install a new device.

The price of UBL for top-loading Whirlpool washing machines is low, around $10. Installing a new lock is performed in the reverse order:

connect the wires to the blocker contacts according to the diagram;
insert the device into the “socket” where it stood;
fix the side wall of the case with self-tapping screws.

After this, a test wash is started. If the cover is blocked, the replacement can be considered successful. If the electronic lock does not work, you will have to check whether the contacts are connected correctly.
