Replacing the inlet hose of a washing machine

The pressure inside the filler sleeve of the washer is so strong that as soon as it gets slightly damaged, all the water will begin to rapidly flow out. Remove the old hose and install a new one

Replacing the inlet hose usually takes no more than 20 minutes, so you can cope with this task not only without the help of specialists, but even without tools. The most important thing is to follow basic precautions. First of all, you need to turn off the water supply to the washing machine, and also cover the floors with rags or unnecessary towels so as not to damage the floors. After this, you should disconnect the equipment from the power supply and move it away from the wall so that you have free access to the rear panel.

If you have already turned off the water, you can safely unscrew the plastic nut of the filler sleeve from the body, having previously prepared a container for the waste liquid that remains in the system. A basin or bucket is useful for lowering the end of the hose into it and draining all remaining water. When the liquid has been drained, unscrew a similar nut of the inlet hose from the other end, which is screwed to the tee valve.

Now all you have to do is install a new element instead of the damaged hose. First, install the rubber gaskets that usually come with the hose. Next, you should clean the thread of the tee tap, wind a little winding around it and screw the nut on one end of the filler hose. Under no circumstances should a plastic nut be screwed on with tools, as you risk damaging the fragile element by deforming it or stripping the thread. Instead, just carefully screw the fastener in place by hand.

Then you should install the second end of the sleeve to the washing machine - this should also be done carefully, without using tools. Be sure to make sure not to miss the threads and cause a leak during the first operating cycle.

This completes the replacement of the inlet hose, and all you have to do is reconnect the device to the water supply, sewerage and electrical networks, and then check the correct connection using an idle operating cycle. Do not rush to move the device back to the wall, as you should monitor its operation for at least 15 minutes, because sometimes the hose begins to leak not immediately, but during the washing process.

Choosing a suitable hose

For the replacement to be successful, it is necessary to use a high-quality inlet hose that is ideal for the “home assistant”. To do this, you need to know what elements can generally be found on the market.

• An ordinary rubber hose. This is the cheapest sleeve, which allows you to save the family budget, but cannot boast of good quality, so it is better not to choose it.
• Reinforced drain sleeve. This hose is distinguished by a reinforced layer of wire, as well as a nylon sheath.This corrugation does not provide 100% protection against leaks, but it is definitely much more reliable than a regular rubber element.
• Double hose with protection against leaks "Aquastop". For washing machines, there is no better option than a similar filling hose with a special block that protects the user from leaks. Because of this block with an absorbent or valve, the hose is not cheap, but the high price is compensated by a high degree of protection.

A hose with such protection can only work once, so after a leak it must be replaced.

Repairing the flooring and compensating neighbors for damage will cost much more than one inlet hose, so experts advise not to skimp on this part, but to choose the best option. It is also worth considering that hoses with adjustable lengths can be found on the market. For example, the following models are common today:

• ordinary hoses without adjustment, which can be from 1 to 5 meters in length;
• special hoses that can be stretched to the desired length;

What to look for when choosing a hose?

Today it is very easy to purchase any components for washing machines, because this can be done not only in household appliances and spare parts stores, but also on the Internet. Before purchasing, be sure to pay attention to a number of parameters.

• Length.Due to the fact that it is forbidden to increase the length of the inlet hose, you should immediately select an element whose dimensions are sufficient to connect the SM to the water supply. In addition, the sleeve should be enough so that there is no strong tension, and it does not curl into a ring anywhere. That is why, before purchasing a hose, you should carefully measure the distance from the communications to the washing machine.
• Maximum pressure. This indicator is usually written on the hose itself, so it will be easy to find out. Due to the fact that the pressure in the water pipe changes frequently, the filling hose must be able to withstand it. Therefore, for safety reasons, it is better to buy the part with a reserve. For apartment buildings, it is advisable to purchase products with a pressure of 10 Bar, and for private houses - 20 Bar.

• Maximum temperature. Finally, it is worth considering the water temperature that the hose can withstand. If it is not protected from hot water, it will fail very quickly. Make sure that the hose can pass hot water heated to 90-100 degrees Celsius so as not to worry about household appliances and repairs.

You should not skimp on the inlet hose, because this is the element on which the safety of your home depends. The best anti-leak hoses start at $15, but that's totally worth it since it could save you $1,000. Before purchasing, do not rush, but carefully select products based on length, temperature and pressure withstand.
