Grease stains on clothes after washing

Grease stains on clothes after washingGrease stains appear on clothes after washing only in one case - oil-stained laundry was initially loaded into the machine. Even a high-temperature cycle will not cope with fat; moreover, the situation will only worsen, and dirt will penetrate deep into the fibers. It is still possible to remove a stubborn grease stain, but it will be much more difficult to deal with. It remains to figure out exactly how to do this.

Let's start with the "heavy artillery"

If you notice an enlarged oil stain after washing, do not panic - you can still fix it. But it is better not to delay the moment, but to immediately begin to act. Moreover, we forget about half-measure methods, moving on to the “heavy artillery” - modern stain removers.

It is necessary to take a stain remover that matches the color and type of fabric of the clothing. Next, following the instructions on the package, begin the fight against fat.

  1. Dilute the product in the required dosage.
  2. Test the stain remover on a special piece of cloth (it comes with your clothes) or on an inconspicuous area (the inside of a cuff or lapel).
  3. Apply to a white cloth or cotton wool.stain removers against greasy stains
  4. Treat the stain, working from the edges to the middle (otherwise you may smear the dirt more).

Before using the stain remover, carefully read the instructions on the packaging!

Before using a stain remover, you should first figure out what to do and in what order. If the stain is deeply ingrained into the fabric, it is better to rub longer to enhance the cleaning effect. You need to be careful with colored and black underwear - due to the aggressive composition, it can fade.

Ways to remove old stains

If you don’t have a stain remover at home or its aggressive composition does not inspire confidence, then you will have to turn to old and proven “home” methods. Their beauty is that they are cheaper and safer than store-bought “competitors”, and improvised products are used as cleaners. So, the following products and preparations will help remove even stubborn fat:

  • laundry soap;
  • starch;
  • glycerol;
  • alcohol;
  • gasoline or acetone;
  • salt.

It’s better to start with laundry soap, since this method is the easiest and safest, but is not inferior in effectiveness. We take a bar with 72%, soap the stain with it and leave the item for 2-3 hours. Afterwards the clothes are washed again. If traces of fat are noticeable, we process it again. Oil stains are removed in the same way using dish gel.removing stains with starch

It is advisable to soften the stain before using dish gel or laundry soap to enhance the effect of the product. To do this, straighten the contaminated area, lift it over a container of boiling water and hold it over the steam for 10-30 minutes. Treatment with a steamer or iron will have the same effect.

Laundry soap, dish gel, glycerin and medical alcohol are used against grease stains.

If a greasy stain was placed on delicate clothing, a coat, a down jacket, a leather jacket or an item made of wool, cashmere and nubuck, then it is better to give preference to hot starch. Its advantage is that it does not require water for removal, which allows for dry cleaning. We proceed like this:

  • pour starch into a dry container and heat;
  • put a napkin under your clothes;
  • sprinkle the planted spot with hot starch;
  • look at how the starch absorbs dirt as it cools;
  • We remove the grains saturated with oil and replace them with new ones.

Pharmaceutical glycerin is effective in removing grease stains. The procedure is simple: spread drops on the affected area, leave for 30 minutes, and then wash off with a damp cloth. It’s even better to mix it with ammonia and water, taking half a tablespoon of each ingredient. Place the mixed “ointment” on the oil and evaluate the result after 10 minutes.

Another effective remedy is medical alcohol. You need to soak a cotton swab in it, lubricate the stain, wait 30-40 minutes and rinse. The manipulations are repeated until the fat is completely removed. True, this method has two drawbacks: firstly, not all fabrics are able to withstand the alcohol “onslaught”, and secondly, the specific smell will disappear only after 3-4 hours.

If a grease stain appears on clothes made from coarse and unpretentious fabrics, then you can try more aggressive and effective cleaners. We are talking about gasoline, acetone and nail polish remover made from them. Choose one product and start cleaning:

  • wet a cloth and place it under the dirt;
  • treat the stain itself with another piece of cloth soaked in the product;
  • three until the dirt leaves the fabric;
  • we wash the thing.

Regular table salt will also cope with stubborn stains. More precisely, soaking soiled clothes in a hot saline solution diluted at a ratio of 5 tbsp. l. for 1 l. If a large area is contaminated, you can increase the concentration and volume. Next, all that remains is to immerse the entire linen in the liquid and leave until the oil is removed from the fabric. We wash the affected area additionally.

For more pliable grease stains

It is much easier to remove a fresh stain. This is considered to be contamination delivered no later than 3 hours.A newly soiled area can be cleaned in a matter of minutes, using almost any detergent and a short wash. But if you can’t deal with the grease, then loading the soiled item into the machine and starting the cycle is a bad idea. We repeat, spinning the machine will only make the problem worse and allow the oil to penetrate deeper into the fabric.

It is better not to tempt fate and remove the stain before the main wash cycle. A few handy cleaning products will help you cope with the task. The main thing when choosing a cleaner is to focus on the type and color of the soiled fabric.

  • Dish gel. Dishwashing liquid is an ideal assistant in the fight against greasy stains. The fact is that it consists of surfactants that are effective in removing dietary fat. It is enough to wet the contaminated area, soap it, rub it and wait. If it doesn’t work the first time, you’ll have to repeat the procedure.. Only after the oil has been removed can you complete the cleaning by washing it in a machine.
  • Shampoo for oily hair. It will be an excellent option for cleaning delicate fabrics, wool, silk, velvet and chiffon. It is much softer than dish gel, providing gentle and safe care. You just need to carefully rub the affected area, put the item aside for 20-30 minutes, and then hand wash it in water at 30-40 degrees.
  • Salt. Effective in the fight against fresh fat, berry, wine and tea stains. You just need to sprinkle the desired area and rub with light movements. Within a few minutes, the grains will become saturated with dirt. They should be brushed off the fabric, and then a new portion should be added. Once all the grease stain has disappeared, you can begin the main wash.remove grease stains with salt
  • Ammonia. Mix alcohol and warm water, taking 1 tsp. for half a glass.Dip a cotton swab into the resulting liquid and soak the stain generously. To consolidate the effect, iron it through a soaked napkin.

Newly created fat stains are removed with salt, shampoo, talcum powder, chalk or toothpaste.

  • Toothpaste. It is enough to apply a thin layer, leave for 2-3 hours and wash. If the clothes are colored, then it is better to use a helium texture.
  • Chalk. It is safe, therefore it is actively used when cleaning linen and cotton fabrics. Grind it, sprinkle it on the stain, wait 2-3 hours and wash it off with a damp cloth. Afterwards we wash it in the standard way.
  • Talc and starch. Any of the listed products is ideal for gentle cleaning of delicate fabrics. It is easy to use: place the laundry on a flat surface, sprinkle it on, cover with a napkin and iron at medium temperature. Then something heavy is placed on the grease stain for 3-5 hours.
  • Bread. Effective in removing fat from fleecy materials, velvet or wool. We take a fresh “white” roll, split off the crumb, and then soak the stain with it. As soon as the oil is absorbed without any residue, wash it without adding powder.
  • Tracing paper. A universal product suitable for almost all materials. The stain removal algorithm is simple: straighten the item, place it on a sheet of paper from the inside and outside, and then iron it. After several repetitions, the oil will “transfer” to the paper.

After one cycle in the drum, the fat penetrates deeper into the tissue, which complicates the process of removing it. However, stubborn grease stains can be removed if you choose the right product and follow the instructions.
