What is the diameter of the washing machine drain pipe?

What is the diameter of the washing machine drain pipe?The sewer riser usually has a small diameter, but there are no problems with drainage. Even the simultaneous operation of the washing machine and dishwasher does not prevent dirty water from being pumped out through the pipes. You just need to properly organize the connection of communications - choose the right components and securely fix the joints. It’s another matter if the diameter of the pipe for draining the washing machine is disproportionate to the hose: the first is larger than the second. Will you have to think about adapters and their installation?

Are adapters needed for sewer pipes?

Setting up the drain of a washing machine or sink does not require the installation of additional adapters. Moreover, all internal sewer wiring is carried out with components of the same diameter - for convenient operation and repair. Additional elements, fittings, angles, tees and crosses, also repeat the same size. Manufacturers of automatic machines take into account existing housing standards and produce equipment that meets them.

Modern washing machines are connected to the sewer without adapters.

The only exception would be the toilet. For obvious reasons, it is connected to larger diameter pipes to minimize the likelihood of blockages. Thus, the outlet is mounted in a 110 mm tee, commensurate with the sewer riser. Afterwards, an adapter with dimensions of 100x50 is fixed, and then standard wiring follows.tee for sewer

To connect a washing machine to the sewer, you only need an adapter rubber cuff of the following sizes:

  • internal diameter – commensurate with the inlet part of the machine’s drain hose;
  • external - equal to the circumference of the bell.

If drainage is established through the washbasin siphon, then an adapter rubber band is not required. The corrugation is securely fixed in the socket angle or tee, where the sealing ring is already located. The last element ensures the necessary tightness.

Internal sewerage distribution is carried out with pipes of the same diameter, which simplifies the connection and operation of household appliances.

We will take into account every detail

Setting up the drainage lines of a washing machine is not limited to just connecting the hose to the sewer pipe. Even a correct and reliable joint with a riser does not guarantee high-quality pumping of sewage - some other nuances are also important. While experienced repairmen know all the intricacies of organizing a drain, “newbies” often make mistakes during installation. As a result, the machine works, but often requires repairs.

You can see the difference in the operation of washing machines using a specific example. Let’s say two machines that are absolutely identical in functionality and power are connected as follows:

  • the first is located at a distance of 1 m from the riser and is connected through the included drainage hose 1.5 m long;
  • the second is 2.4 m away from the pipe and connected to the sewer through an additionally purchased 3 m hose.5 meters drain hose

Both washing machines will last 7 years, but the difference will be obvious. The first machine will serve without breakdowns or failures, and the second will require about 2-3 repairs. Most likely, the drain pump will first break in 4-5 years, and then after another 2 years. The reason for the accidents is obvious: with a long corrugation, the pump fails more often, since the load on it exceeds the standard set by the manufacturer.

Before connecting the washing machine to communications, read the instructions - it contains all the conditions, norms and requirements!

Hence the first rule for connecting to a sewer system is to place the washing machine as close as possible. The optimal distance is considered to be up to 1.5 m. Otherwise, the included hose will not be enough, you will have to “increase” the length or change the corrugation. In any case, the user risks the equipment, reducing the period of its trouble-free operation.

The second point concerns the stability of the washing machine. The machine should be installed:

  • on a hard, flat horizontal surface (concrete);
  • with alignment to the building level;
  • with adjustable legs;
  • using special anti-vibration pads.

The third rule is to choose washing machines equipped with a non-return valve. This is a modern addition that simplifies connection to communications and protects the machine from the “siphon effect”. It eliminates the possible intake of sewage from the sewer - only standard drainage of water from the tank.
