Where to put salt in a Siemens dishwasher?

Where to put salt in a Siemens dishwasherEvery year, household appliances become more advanced and “smarter,” which simply cannot but rejoice. Today, housewives don’t even need to think about when they need to add salt to the dishwasher - the smart machine itself will notify you about this with a special indicator on the panel. After such a signal, the “home assistant” is able to carry out several more work cycles normally without salt, but after that the bunker will still need to be filled with salt granules. And if it is now very easy to find salt for PMM, because it is sold in literally every store, then finding a salt bin in a Siemens dishwasher is a little more difficult. Today we will talk about the salt container, as well as about salt consumption.

Where is the salt container located?

It is very convenient that modern Siemens dishwashers come with a small funnel, designed to make it easier to pour salt into the hopper. With its help, you can quickly add granules to the salt reservoir, which is located directly in the washing chamber. To add salt, you need:

  • open a pack of salt and make sure that it can be used for PMM;

For a Siemens dishwasher, even ordinary table salt can occasionally be used, but it is important that it is crystal white, without black granules sticking to each other.

  • open the dishwasher and remove the lower basket for dishes;
  • find the plastic lid of the salt reservoir, which is located at the bottom of the machine next to the left wall of the washing chamber;
  • unscrew the cap counterclockwise;how much and where to pour salt in the dishwasher
  • inspect the salt container for the presence of water;
  • if there is no liquid inside the container, then use a funnel to add water directly to the neck of the container;
  • pour salt into the hopper, which should also be added to the brim even if the granules begin to push liquid out of the salt reservoir.

This completes the loading of salt. All that remains is to screw on the lid, wipe the water from the bottom of the washing chamber and load the lower basket for dishes back into place. Now you can continue to use your Siemens dishwasher without fear for the safety of your household appliances.

Optimize your salt consumption

PMM owners often note that salt runs out too quickly, literally in a month or even less, which seriously hits the wallet, given the current cost of specialized salt for Siemens dishwashers. To avoid this, you can optimize salt consumption, which will require knowledge of the hardness of tap water. You can find out this data either on the official website of your city’s water utility, or using special test strips to determine water quality. These strips determine the level of water hardness.

  • If the strip shows from 0 to 6 dH, then you have very soft water in the city.
  • From 7 to 16 dH – medium hardness.
  • 17-21 dH indicates hard tap water.
  • Finally, dH readings between 22 and 35 indicate that your water is too hard.water hardness table

When the city has high-quality soft water, then salt for a Siemens dishwasher is not needed at all. However, if the machine uses hard water for operation, you will have to add salt and program the hardness level in the device settings. In total, the Siemens dishwasher has four levels of salt use to combat the hardness of tap water, which are activated as follows:

  • turn on the device;
  • hold down the “Setup” key for approximately three seconds until the double curved arrow sign flashes on the unit display;
  • Using the “Start” button, select the desired level from 0 to 3, where the minimum level is needed for soft water, and the maximum for extremely hard water.

You can determine the selected hardness level on a Siemens dishwasher without a display using the LEDs. When three lights up, then the third level is selected, two - the second, one - the first, and if zero, then the mode is set for high-quality water.

Thus, it is not so important how much salt you pour into the machine, as it is important to choose the right hardness mode. Be sure to monitor the set hardness level, especially if the quality of tap water changes significantly throughout the year. Using this simple procedure, you can not only save salt for PMM, but also extend the “life” of your Siemens dishwasher.
