The washing machine requires constant care and maintenance, thanks to which it functions longer and better. The corresponding recommendations are specified in the operating instructions, but not all owners of household appliances follow them, and then are perplexed when they discover blockages in the drain, mold in the pipes, scale on the heating element and other breakdowns. Servicing an LG washing machine includes a number of actions that are not difficult to perform.

Regular Maintenance

The mandatory rule that the door and tray of the washing machine must remain open between washes is familiar to every housewife. It would also be a good idea to wipe dry the inner glass of the hatch, the powder tray, the rubber cuff, as well as the surface of the drum itself.

Once every 3-6 months, it is necessary to carry out more intensive cleaning of the household appliance, affecting its internal components. It is not necessary to call a specialist for this; all manipulations can be done with your own hands. To do this you need:

• disconnect the household appliance from the power supply and water communications;
• remove the detergent tray, wash it to remove any remaining powder, fabric softener, or mold;
• disconnect the water supply hose, remove the filter mesh from it, clean them of scale, soap deposits, and accumulated small debris;
• clean the drain filter;
• clean the drum cuff and check its integrity;
• evaluate the ease of rotation of the drum by spinning it several times clockwise and counterclockwise;
• remove and rinse the drain hose and remove any blockages from it.

Cleaning the drain filter requires some preparation.First, remove the bottom plastic panel and unscrew the cover of the filter itself. Water will appear from it, so you need to take care of the availability of a basin and a dry rag in advance. After draining the water, you need to take out the hose and clean it under running water.

The drum also requires increased attention: while scrolling, you need to pay attention to the presence of crunching, grinding or squeaking noises, which may indicate that small objects have entered the tank: hairpins, paper clips, bra underwires, etc. It is quite difficult to remove them on your own; in such a situation, the help of a specialist may be required.

In-Depth Equipment Check

At least once every 1-2 years, a more in-depth check of the functioning of the modules and components of the unit is required. Malfunctions in the operation of household appliances will be indicated by increased vibration, hum, grinding and other extraneous sounds during washing. In such a situation, it is necessary to disassemble the unit and assess the condition of the following elements:

• dampers (muffler, shock absorber):
• bearing unit;
• counterweights.

To do this, you need to disconnect the washing machine from the power supply, turn the water supply tap to the “Closed” position, and disconnect the water supply and drainage hoses from the household appliance. Next, you need to place the household appliance so that there is access to all its surfaces. After unscrewing several bolts on the rear panel, remove the top cover of the unit, then remove the screws securing the rear wall.

This will give you access to the internal components of the washing machine. Among them, you first need to find concrete blocks that serve as counterweights. You need to make sure that there are no chips or cracks on them (replace if the integrity is damaged), and also find out the quality of their fixation with bolts - to do this you need to press on them. If the bolts are loose, they must be tightened.

The next step is to assess the belt tension. If it is weakened, you should take care of replacing the part or cleaning it, letting it dry, and then treating it with pine rosin.

Below are shock absorbers that are tested for elasticity. It would be a good idea to treat them with graphite lubricant.

Queue for the heating element. Carefully disconnect the electrical wires from it, loosen the central nut and remove the heating element. Vinegar will help remove scale: soak the heating element in acid until the formations soften, and then remove them with a brush or hard sponge.

Do not ignore wires and sensors, tubes connecting the dispenser and tank, valves - all these components must be intact.

The final stage is assessing the condition of the bearings. If a grinding or crunching sound is heard when turning the drum, or there is strong play, the part must be replaced.

Replacing components usually requires disconnecting nearby and connecting parts. If you first take a photograph of the connection diagram, you can eliminate the risk of incorrect installation of the new element. Timely identification of damaged parts and their replacement with new ones will extend the service life of the washing machine by 5-7 years.
