Error E5 in a Bosch washing machine

Error E5 appears on a Bosch machine at the very beginning of the cycle. The combination appears on the display, the equipment freezes, there is no sound of water, the drum does not rotate. To continue the planned wash, you will have to determine the nature of the problem and fix it. We propose to deal with “E5”: decipher the code, consider the reasons, carry out diagnostics and outline an action plan. We will focus on the instructions and recommendations of specialists.

Let's decipher the code

There is no need to be afraid of E5 - as a rule, the breakdown is not serious and can be easily repaired. If this error code is displayed on a Bosch washing machine, it means that the machine cannot draw water and start washing. Several problems at once lead to a broken water intake, so it is important not to rush, but to analyze the behavior of the washing machine before the self-diagnosis system operates.

The best solution is observation. The procedure is as follows:

• turn off the power supply to Bosch;
• wait 20-30 minutes;
• plug the power cord into the outlet;
• open the detergent tray halfway;
• turn on any quick wash program;
• we look into the powder receptacle, noting how water enters the machine and into which compartments;
• We observe until “E5” appears on the display again.

After such a “test” it will become clear who is to blame for the error and what to do to eliminate it. In most cases, the failure is caused by a clogged fill valve mesh, failure of the capacitor itself, or problems with the electronics. You can more accurately determine the nature and scale of the breakdown by the telling “symptoms”.

“Tick” trivial reasons

Error E5 often appears even in the absence of any breakdowns. The most obvious and banal thing is that there is no water in the central water supply or the pressure is too weak. It is logical that in this case the washing machine is not able to fill the drum and start the wash.

The washing machine system is designed in such a way that a certain amount of time is allocated for each action. The liquid in the required volume has not yet entered the tank, which means that there is an automatic failure and the cycle is cancelled.

There is no need for repairs as such - all that remains is to fix the problem. It is enough to open a tap with cold water and evaluate the power of the pressure. If the jet is too weak or absent at all, then washing is impossible. There are two ways to solve the problem:

• wait for water to appear (pipe repairs may be in progress);
• contact the housing office and clarify the reason for turning off the water (there is a high probability that an accident occurred, and the management company does not know about the problem).

If there is water in the tap, then the problem is different. First of all, we check whether the tap allocated for the washing machine is open. There are three possible options: the valve is closed, open or broken. In the last two cases, you will have to repair or replace the locking mechanism.

Check the fill valve and its filter

Having found out that it was not external problems that led to E5, it is worth moving on to diagnosing Bosch itself. Several internal problems prevent a full set at once: a clogged mesh filter, a faulty inlet valve, or a broken control board. In the first two cases, you can deal with the error yourself at home.

First we pay attention to the filter. It is possible that the mesh is clogged with debris and is not letting water into the machine.To clean the filter element, you must:

• disconnect the washing machine from the power supply and water supply;
• unhook the inlet hose from the body;
• pay attention to the junction of the existing hose and the washing machine - there is an inlet valve and a filter mesh there;
• assess the condition of the mesh (if the filter is dirty, then it must be picked up with a screwdriver, removed and washed).

Leads to E5 and a malfunction of the filling valve. It can be repaired, but the repair process is long and labor-intensive. It is much faster, easier and more reliable to purchase a new analogue and replace the old device. The cost of the analogue is low, but prices depend on the Bosch model.

However, before going to the store, you should make sure that the valve is faulty. To do this, unhook the supplied wiring, unscrew the holding bolts and remove it from the housing. Then we directly connect it to the inlet hose and alternately apply a 220 V discharge to each coil. All that remains is to evaluate the performance of the system: when voltage is applied, the element should “open” and allow water to pass through. Then we “call” the capacitor chip and the connected wires with a multimeter. If problems are found, we replace it with a new one.

If the diagnostics did not reveal the cause, then most likely the problem is in the board. It is not recommended to deal with the module on your own - it is better to turn to professionals.
