Error E60 in Zanussi washing machine

Error E60 in Zanussi washing machineFor many craftsmen, working with error E60 on a Zanussi washing machine is considered quite difficult. The fault code is easy to decipher at first glance: “equipment overheating,” but it is not easy to detect which specific part has overheated. Even diagnostics of a number of components does not always bring results.

What exactly is broken?

If the Zanussi washing machine displays error E60, this means that the water temperature initially set by the program has exceeded the norm. It is impossible to operate equipment with such a problem; it can completely disable the machine. The most common factor leading to this error is the incorrect operation of the temperature sensor. Two signs indicate this malfunction:

  • the Zanussi washing machine overheats the water in any mode, bringing it to a boil - steam comes out of the open door, and the body becomes very hot;
  • when the temperature is set to 60-90 degrees, the water, on the contrary, does not heat up - twenty minutes after starting, the machine door remains cold.

The water in the machine is boiling

What to do in this situation? If the heating is insufficient, you will simply end up with poorly washed clothes, but if the fault code E60 indicates overheating, the heater may fail. Replacing the heating element will cost a considerable amount, so it is better to turn off the equipment and try to repair it. To do this, you will need to remove the old sensor and install a new one, after checking it first.

Testing the sensor correctly

The temperature sensor is located inside the heater. To repair it, you will have to disassemble the machine a little. Some Zanussi cars have a heating element in the front.The disassembly procedure will be as follows:

  • de-energize equipment;
  • remove the top cover using a screwdriver (unscrew the screws from the back, slide the cover towards the hatch and lift);
  • pull out the tray for washing powder by pressing on the tab inside (it is located in the conditioner compartment);
  • unscrew the bolts on the sides of the dashboard and remove the latter carefully so as not to tear off the wires;
  • carefully separate the decorative panel;
  • loosen the clamp on the hatch and insert the seal into the drum (do not remove the rubber band, as it will be difficult to reinstall);
  • remove the wires from the hatch lock of the Zanussi washing machine;
  • remove the front panel and free the heater from the wires;
  • remove the sensor from the heating element.

find the thermistor in a Zanussi car

For other models, the heater is located on the rear side. Here, to remove the temperature sensor with your own hands, you will need to remove the back panel, having first unscrewed the mounting screws. Then remove the drive belt, heating element wiring and the last step is to remove the thermistor. After this, you need to ring the temperature sensor with a tester. We use a multimeter according to the instructions.

  1. Set the multimeter to “Resistance” mode.
  2. We connect the probes to the sensor contacts.
  3. We remember that when the sensor heats up to 20 degrees, the resistance value will reach 6000 Ohms.
  4. We put the thermistor in hot water and look at the indicators.
  5. If the resistance drops, the device is in working condition (at a water temperature of 500, the resistance does not exceed 1350 Ohms).

checking the thermistor with a multimeter

Once you discover that the sensor is damaged, there is no way to fix it. Before purchasing a new part, write down the serial number of the old part.Please note that incorrect or poor-quality installation of the rubber seal or sensor can lead to leakage, so we do not remove the heating element unless necessary.

Important! The thermistor must be inserted into the seat very tightly to avoid leaks. Glue or sealant cannot be used to ensure a good connection.

After replacing the part, the washing machine is reassembled in the reverse order. First, connect the wiring to the heater, then return the panel, hatch lock, rubber seal, instrument panel, dispenser and cover. Then run a test cycle without laundry and washing powder.
