Error F12 in Whirlpool washing machine

Error F12 in Whirlpool washing machineWhat to do if the Whirlpool washing machine shows error F12? You need to figure out what kind of failure the washing machine is signaling. The explanation of the fault code can be found in the user manual. Let's figure out what error F12 means and what to do when it is detected on the display.

Let's decipher the code

You can figure out whether you can handle the problem yourself by deciphering the code. Error F12, issued by the Whirlpool automatic machine, indicates that the water in the tank is not warming up to the required temperature. Due to insufficient heating, the quality of washing deteriorates - difficult stains are not removed in cool water. The reason that the water in the system does not heat up may be a malfunction:

  • heating element (heating element);
  • temperature sensor;
  • protective pressure switch;
  • heating relay on the control board.

Also, a probable cause of error F12 is a broken wiring in the “Main control module - heating element” section. The listed breakdowns can only be repaired by a person with certain knowledge. There is no point in undertaking repairs without any experience working with washing machines. For equipment, it can result in complete failure, and for an inexperienced repairman - serious injuries.

If you detect code F12 on the CMA display, it is advisable to call a qualified specialist to diagnose and troubleshoot problems.

To correct the situation, the following repairs may be required:

  • eliminating wiring defects, sealing clamps, checking contacts;
  • dismantling the faulty part and installing a new element (we are talking about a thermistor on the control board, heating element, heating relay, protective pressure switch).what does the heating element look like on Whirlpool?

In most cases, the reason lies in a failed heater. The heating element of automatic machines often burns out due to a layer of scale formed on the element. You can increase the service life of the heater if you use special products that prevent the appearance of scale.

How to change the heating element?

What to do if F12 lights up on the display? An ordinary user can diagnose the SMA Whirlpool heating element with his own hands. It is very easy to check the heating element using a multimeter. The heater on Whirlpool automatic machines is located at the front, so to gain access to the heating element you will have to remove the front wall of the case. The algorithm of actions will be as follows:

  • turn off the power to the washing machine, close the inlet valve;
  • using a slotted screwdriver, release the latches and remove the lower front trim panel;
  • Unscrew the bolts located under the narrow panel;
  • loosen the clamp holding the hatch door cuff and remove it from the machine;
  • tuck the rubber seal inside the drum;
  • unscrew the hinge together with the hatch door using a size 8 key;replacing the heating element on a Whirlpool machine
  • Unscrew the screws holding the UBL (they are located on the right, near the hole for the door lock);
  • Carefully remove the front wall of the case (the panel is held in place by additional latches);
  • inspect the contacts of the heating element located directly under the hatch;
  • take a photo of the wiring diagram for the heater;
  • disconnect the wires, loosen the nut securing the heating element, and remove the heater from the housing using rocking movements.

If it is difficult for the part to come out, lubricate the rubber seal of the heating element with WD-40 aerosol.

Next, you should inspect the heating element and ring it with a tester. If a breakdown is detected, you will have to replace the part with a new one.The seat must be cleaned of accumulated dirt and a working heating element must be installed. Connecting the heater and assembling the SMA is carried out in the reverse order.
