Error F16 in a Siemens washing machine

Every owner of a washing machine knows that there are certain fault codes that can be used to detect where the breakdown is located. For Siemens washing machines, this function does not allow you to 100 percent determine the location of the fault the first time, but you can identify a certain range of problems, which will make the task easier for both the owner and the technician. One of the most common errors from Siemens is F16, so it is advisable to know everything about it: what to do and how to fix it.

Let's decipher the code

As soon as you see error F16 on the display, you can be sure that the problem is in the hatch door. This is also evidenced by the fact that the machine refuses to start the washing process. In this case, the owner of a Siemens washing machine has two options: replace any element of the hatch that cannot be repaired, or repair it. But first you need to understand what the problem is. First, do a superficial inspection:

• If the door does not lock when closed, proceed to dismantling the door, as it is likely the problem is with the lock or locking tab.
• If everything closes but does not lock, then replacement will be needed.
• The hinges holding the door may be worn out. They will also need to be replaced.
• The plastic handle itself may also break. Replacing this part with a new one is as easy as shelling pears.

None of the signs matched? Then you need to look deeper inside the machine. To do this, open the door, unscrew all the bolts and fasteners, and remove it. Disassemble the lock element, the door itself, etc. as much as possible. to inspect for faults. Pull out the blocking device

It is quite possible to carry out repairs yourself, the main thing is to find out the reasons and remember about safety precautions. First, you need to disconnect the Siemens washing machine from the electrical network and turn off the water. Secondly, the hatch may get stuck in the closed position, that is, the door must first be opened. In this case, proceed as follows:

• place the home assistant on its side so that you can reach the bottom;
• unscrew the screws and remove the panel;
• put your hand through the lower hole and feel for the UBL;
• use your fingers to push the latch until the door opens.

Important! If you are worried that you won’t be able to lay the machine on its side, you can also get to the locking device through the top wall. Remove the panel and do the same manipulations.

Now that access to the hatch door is open, you can begin replacing the UBL. First lift up the rubber cuff. It is held at the bottom with a clamp. If it is plastic, unfasten the clamp; if it is metal, pick it up with a sharp object and remove it. Now the elastic band can be easily bent inside the drum.

After this, you will see the locking device directly. Unscrew the two bolts holding it on the outside. It is attached to the inside only with a plastic chip. Fix the location of the contacts and release the connections. Stick your hand to the lock on the back of the hatch and grab it. Now you can begin to inspect and, if necessary, fix the problem.

We will test and replace the UBL

Since the blocker is an electronic device, it must be checked with a multimeter or tester. To do this, you need to know what contact is called and what it is responsible for. To do this, download the electronic diagram of the part on the Internet. Now you can start:

• put the tester in resistance measurement mode;
• Find the phase and neutral contacts and attach the tester clips to them. If there is a three-digit number on the screen, then everything is in order;
• Now move the probe from phase contact to common, leave neutral in place. Did the number 1 or 0 appear? So there's nothing to worry about.

In other cases, you will have to replace it, since it is useless to repair the UBL. Be careful when choosing a part for your SM model.
