Error code FC2 on Haier washing machine

Often, owners of washing machines are faced with a fault code, the decoding of which indicates a loss of communication between the control module and the engine, due to which the former does not understand whether the part is working or not. In this situation, there is a high probability that everything is fine with the module, however, what is the matter then and how to fix the problem? Today we will look at why the FC2 error may occur on a Haier washing machine and help you carry out effective diagnostics.

Testing the engine

You can check the performance of the machine’s motor yourself, the main thing is to know how to do it. It will be necessary to study the type and operating principle of the engine installed in the unit. For example, Haier washing machines are equipped with commutator motors that operate with a drive belt. If we compare them with inverter ones, they are more compact and easier to operate. However, they have their drawback and it consists in the fact that the “collectors” often fail, which means that sooner or later you will have to service them.

The structure of such motors includes a rotor, a stator and two electric brushes. The lamellas and winding are responsible for transmitting current inside the mechanism. There is also a sensor in the engine that controls the number of revolutions gained by the engine. When conducting self-diagnosis, it is necessary to sequentially check each of the mentioned elements. But first you need to do the following:

• remove the back panel from the CM body;
• pull the drive belt off the pulley;
• find the engine, which is located under the tank on the right side;
• take a photo of the chip or remember the location of the terminals so that later it will be easier to connect everything back;
• turn off the wiring connected to the motor;
• loosen the fixing bolts;
• swing and remove the engine from the “socket”.

We start by checking the engine itself. This process is quite simple. It is necessary to connect the cores of the stator windings to the rotor and apply a voltage of 220 Volts to them.

If the motor starts and begins to rotate the shaft, then the device is working properly!

In this case, it will be possible to begin checking individual components of the “home assistant” mechanism. If there is still no movement, this is a clear sign of a malfunction. In this situation, repairs will be required.

Don't forget that even with simple testing, special care must be taken. Firstly, you should be careful when working with tension to avoid unpleasant situations. Secondly, the motor should not be allowed to overheat when connected directly. The wisest thing to do is not to take risks and turn on the heating element, which, in the event of a current leak, will heat up and take the blow. Thirdly, it is worth remembering that such diagnostics only cover superficial aspects and do not give a complete picture of the operation of the part at different speeds.

Worth a look at the brushes

The next diagnostic stage is electric brushes. They are located on the engine housing and smooth out friction using specially designed carbon tips. If they wear out, the engine overheats, causing it to spark. The board detects this and issues error FC2. In order to check the condition of the electric brushes, you will need:

• unscrew the fixing bolts;
• compress the spring;
• unhook the brushes from the body;
• open each “case”;
• measure the length of the tips.

When choosing new parts, pay attention to the Haier model serial number. If the length of the “charcoal” on one of the brushes is less than 1.5 cm, an error code will appear on the display. The only solution here is to replace both rods in pairs. Installation of new cases is carried out in accordance with the instructions in the reverse order.

What else needs to be tested?

The diagnostic process also includes checking the lamellas. They are metal plates that are attached to a shaft and are used to transmit current to the rotor. Over time, they can become damaged or peel off, eventually leading to engine failure. In case of minor faults, it will be enough to polish the “burrs” with sandpaper, but in case of serious damage, a complete replacement of the part may be required.

Error FC2 may occur due to problems with the winding: the motor stops starting or does not have time to accelerate. This, in turn, leads to a short circuit, the motor overheats, the thermistor notices this, and the control board has to reset the program. As a result, either the temperature sensor or the engine itself breaks down. The important thing here is to thoroughly test the windings using a multimeter. The sequence of actions is as follows:

• turn on “Ohmmeter”;
• touch the lamellas with the probes;
• look at the result (20 to 200 Ohms is normal, deviations indicate a short circuit or break).

After these manipulations, we ring the stator with a buzzer for breakdown. If a current leak is detected, the only way to correct the situation is to replace the motor. We purchase a new motor, install it ourselves and start the test washing mode.
