Cleaning the Indesit washing machine pump

Cleaning the Indesit washing machine pumpWithout a properly functioning drain, the washing machine will not work. For the cycle to complete successfully, the waste water must go down the drain, which is quite difficult if the pump is clogged. Fortunately, to normalize the process, it is enough to clean the pump of the Indesit washing machine. We suggest you figure out how to properly clean the drainage system and when it is necessary.

How can you tell if the pump is dirty?

A drum that does not empty does not always indicate problems with the pump. The culprits of a non-functioning drain can also be the drain pipe, hose, snail or garbage filter. But with similar “symptoms”, it is not difficult to identify a pump malfunction, since there is a way to check several drainage points at once.

We act like this.

  1. We are trying to drain the water automatically by selecting the “Drain” program. If it doesn’t work out, we move on.
  2. Use a screwdriver to pry off the technical hatch door, which is located in the lower right corner of the Indesit body, from the latches.
  3. We find a round plug on the right side - the garbage filter cover.
  4. We place a basin under the filter and cover the surrounding area with rags.
  5. We take the “handle” protruding on the filter and, turning it clockwise 2-3 turns, remove the “trash can”.we find pump contamination
  6. We carefully inspect the spiral and, if necessary, clean it from adhering dirt and hair.
  7. We shine a flashlight through the vacated hole and inspect the snail for blockages.
  8. We check the pump impeller in a similar way. Often it is blocked due to hair wrapped around the blades.

Do not remove the garbage filter immediately after the end of the cycle, as there is a high risk of being scalded by hot water.

It is best not to trust your eyes, but to stick a screwdriver into the hole and try to turn the impeller. If rotation is very difficult or, on the contrary, too free, it means that the drain pump needs to be cleaned. The pump needs to be removed and checked.

Getting to the pump

Almost all washing models from Indesit are not equipped with a tray, so getting to the pump is not difficult. But first you will have to disconnect the machine from all connected communications and move it away from the wall, providing free access to the unit. Then we fix the inlet and drain hoses on the body and get to work.

We proceed as follows.

  • We check that there is no water in the dispensary.
  • Turn the washer onto its right side.how to get to the pump
  • We look under the bottom of the machine and look for the pump - a round black “washer” secured to the volute with four bolts.
  • We release the wiring connected to the pump and unscrew the four bolts holding it.

Before removing the wires connected to the chips, it is recommended to photograph the location of the phases and terminals to avoid errors when reconnecting.

  • Rocking the pump body, remove it from the volute.

Once the pump is in your hands, you can begin to diagnose the part. If everything is done correctly, it will become clear what the problem is with a non-functioning drain and how to correct the situation.

Cleaning the part

A working impeller rotates with little effort. If threads, lint or hair are wound around the blades, then its movement becomes difficult and stops.. Therefore, the first step is to remove everything extraneous from the part.

To clean the pump further, you need to disassemble it. We unscrew the housing, clean the internal parts from dirt, after which we assemble and rotate the impeller. If the blades rotate better than before, the pump has been repaired.

There are non-separable types of pumps that cannot be repaired.

Most often, on automatic machines from Indesit, the impeller is not blocked, but falls off and dangles on the fasteners. In this case, we do not recommend trying to fix the ring with glue or sealant. It is better not to waste time on resuscitation, but to purchase a new pump. It's simpler, safer, more reliable and inexpensive. The pump can be disassembled for effective cleaning.

How does the drain function in the machine?

To better understand the nuances of the upcoming work and prevent the blockage from reoccurring, it is worth taking a closer look at the functioning of the drainage system in washing machines. The drain operation pattern is the same in most washing machines, and Indesit is no exception. In short, water is pumped through the machine as follows.

  1. The board gives a signal when the cycle is completed (or when users turn on the “Drain” or “Spin” programs), after which the pump starts working.
  2. The impeller rotates, giving the water the right direction.
  3. Waste water from the drum is directed through the pipe to the pump.
  4. On the way to the pump, water enters the garbage filter, which, thanks to the built-in grille, retains debris, protecting the pump and impeller.
  5. After passing through the pump, the water goes through the drain hose into the sewer.

With proper use, the pump will last 5-10 years.

The pump is held in place by a snail distributor, which in appearance resembles a flattened shell. As soon as the tank is empty, the pressure switch sends a corresponding signal to the control module and the pump stops.
