How to disassemble a child car seat and wash the cover?

How to disassemble a child car seat and wash the coverAny car seat for children gets dirty quickly: the child eats and drinks in it, which always results in stains and smudges. Standard cleaning of the interior will not correct the situation - you need to disassemble the child car seat and wash the cover. It is important to do everything correctly so as not to complicate reassembly and not damage the seat.

Preparing the chair for washing

Almost all child car seat covers can be washed in an automatic washing machine. The difficulty is that the cape must first be removed. It is difficult to cope with the latter without preparation - there are many fastenings and belts on the seat.

In short, the instructions for disassembling and cleaning a child seat look like this:

  • pull the cover off the top of the chair;
  • remove the tucked elastic band around the perimeter of the seat;
  • we separate the headboard from the back (this is a separate element made of denser material);
  • we take out two long straps: we find protective plastic buttons, unfasten them, pull out the straps;
  • release the lower fastener (first pull it up, and then insert it into the hole on the cover);
  • If desired, we also pull off the protective pads from the straps (turn the chair around the back wall, remove the straps from the hook, pull out the panels, unclip the belt fastening and remove the “pads” from the strap).

It is recommended to wash all removable fabric elements of the chair: cover, headboard lining and shoulder pads.

The removed cover, together with the headboard and pads, can be put into the washing machine. But before loading it into the drum, you need to shake out the pad and check it for forgotten items.Often coins, small toys and cookies get stuck in the “upholstery,” which can clog the washer’s drain. It is advisable to place the elements cleaned of debris in a special mesh bag to protect the material from damage. It is recommended to wash on a delicate cycle with minimal spin, double rinsing and water temperature up to 40 degrees. When washing by hand, it’s even easier - put the item in a basin and soak it.dismantling the main elements of the chair

When cleaning the cape, it is recommended to use special detergents. It is important to choose hypoallergenic natural formulations, without chlorine and other aggressive bleaching components. If you don’t have a suitable powder, you can prepare a safe soap solution at home - rub laundry or baby soap and dissolve in warm water. Dry the cover in a horizontal position in a ventilated area away from direct sunlight and heating appliances.

Reassembly

Washing the car seat cover is only half the battle. It is also necessary to return the cape and straps to their original places, following strictly the instructions. If there is no user manual, you should rely on the notes and photos taken during disassembly.

It is important to understand that you cannot replace an old cover with a new one, even if their shape is similar. The cover is an integral part of the car seat and is sewn specifically for it, taking into account all the bends and fastenings. If you tighten another “shell”, the system will be disrupted and the structure will no longer be safe.

You cannot arbitrarily change the cover on a child seat - a “foreign” cover does not take into account the design features of the seat.

When returning the cover to its place, we follow the manufacturer's recommendations. Typically, the procedure is as follows:

  • connect the cape to the provided seat belts;
  • pull the cover onto the bottom of the seat, once again checking the matching of the buttons and fasteners;
  • throw the cover over the back, level it on the sides, moving from the center to the sides;
  • fasten all available fasteners and rivets (on average, there are about 7-10 buttons, but sometimes the main fixation comes from an elastic band);putting the chair back together
  • insert the shoulder straps, making sure that they fit into the lower latching slots in the back of the chair;
  • put on special pads that protect the child from belt friction;
  • adjust the length of the straps and secure;
  • check the reliability of all fastenings.

If you do everything correctly and in the given sequence, then cleaning the child car seat will go quickly and without surprises. The main thing is not to neglect the manufacturer’s instructions and not to experiment.
