“Sport” program in the washing machine

Sportswear program in the LG washing machineMany washing machines today are equipped with special programs for washing sports items. As a rule, they are called “Sports”. But it is not so easy for a modern user to figure out which sports items can be washed on “Sport” and which cannot. For example, is the “Sport” mode in a washing machine contraindicated for membrane fabrics with water-repellent impregnation? And what is special about this particular mode? Let's figure it out.

How does such a program work?

Nowadays, high-quality sportswear is not made from simple fabrics, but from high-tech complex materials that have characteristics that are beyond the capabilities of natural fibers. They allow you to move easily, do not interfere with sweating, and allow your skin to breathe. However, the more complex the fabric, the more vulnerable it is. Therefore, recommendations for caring for each individual item should be found on the manufacturer’s label.

Important! As a rule, washing such items in a machine is only permissible using a special “sport” mode.

The automatic parameters of this program are as follows:

  • The washing duration is usually 70 minutes, but it may change due to manual adjustment of some parameters;
  • spinning is provided, but at very low speeds (not higher than 600);
  • the water is cool - not hotter than 30 degrees;The washing temperature should not be higher than 30 degrees
  • During the cycle, the drum rotates very slowly and sometimes stops altogether, as if soaking the clothes.

However, the duration of the program needs to be clarified individually; it may vary among different SMs. The exact washing time is indicated in the instructions for the unit.

Recommendations for washing sportswear

To ensure that sportswear serves you for a long time and at the same time maintains a presentable appearance, it is not enough to throw it into an automatic washing machine and start the wash. There are some more practical tips for care.

  1. Be sure to soak your clothes before washing.
  2. Wash your clothes immediately after each exercise session. After all, it is the bacteria living on the skin that feed on sweat that cause the unpleasant odor. If you dry your sweat-soaked clothes and then put them on again, no antiperspirant will save you and those around you from the strong unpleasant odor, because another layer will be added to the old accumulation of bacteria and dirt.You can’t do without soaking your laundry
  3. If you can’t wash your sports item right away, just pre-soak it in a vinegar-water solution. The acid in vinegar will destroy bacteria that emit an unpleasant odor. The proportion of water and vinegar is one to a quarter, that is, for 500 grams of vinegar, 2 liters of water. Keep things there for 15-30 minutes and dry. Or simply dry your laundry completely before putting it in the hamper to prevent mildew from forming.

Do not forget that any methods of emergency removal of traces of dirt and sweat, as well as unpleasant odors, although effective, cannot replace real washing.

Also, it will be useful to use gel rather than loose powder for washing. Modern sportswear is made from water-repellent synthetic materials that absorb powder when washed. As a result, washing powder accumulated in the seams and pores of the fabric, when in contact with skin heated during exercise, can then cause serious allergic reactions. In addition, during training a person breathes more actively, and he will have to inhale the powder molecules. This will not happen with gels.

The gel can also be used before washing to get rid of old stains from sweat or deodorant. Apply a little gel to the brush and scrub problem areas. After washing there will be no trace left of them.

Don't put too many things in the drum. Before placing clothes inside the drum, close all zippers and pockets and turn the items inside out.

Attention! Do not add conditioner under any circumstances. It envelops things and prevents odors and bacteria from leaving. Such exposure will not only worsen the appearance of the clothes, but will also destroy the fibers of the fabric, depriving it of its special properties, and in order to wash out the conditioner, you will have to do several more washes.

The vinegar mentioned above will perfectly perform the conditioner function. Add half a glass to the conditioner compartment before rinsing, and things will become as soft as after rinsing.

Although it seems that the hotter the water, the better the wash, this is not true. Elastic fabrics are deformed and destroyed when exposed to high temperatures. So you need to wash them in cold or lukewarm water; sports programs provide for this. The same applies to drying; hot air is contraindicated, so if there is automatic drying, then only at the lowest temperatures.
