How to connect the washing machine drain to the toilet?

How to connect the washing machine drain to the toiletMost often, washing machines are installed in bathrooms, but not always in the usual way. While some place the machines next to the bathroom or under the sink, others raise the units up - above the toilet. There are a lot of options, the main thing is to securely fix the equipment and establish drainage. If it is not possible to connect directly to the sewer outlet, then all that remains is to drain the washing machine into the toilet. We'll tell you in more detail how to do this.

Overflow

The simplest and most obvious way is to flush the water down the toilet. You just need to secure the drain hose with a special plastic holder, which is installed on the side of the toilet seat. You don’t need any special skills – even a child can fasten the “loop.”

This method has undeniable advantages:

  • it's simple;
  • there is no need to dismantle the plumbing and open the wall;
  • no need to use tools or get into sewer lines;
  • The drain hose is installed at a sufficient level from the floor.

This is where the advantages end and the disadvantages begin. There are twice as many of them:

  • the hose will have to be constantly hung and put away;
  • It’s easy to forget about the hose and cause a flood;toilet overflowing
  • the hose is not fixed securely, so due to the vibrations emanating from the machine, it can fly off and flood the room;
  • if the hose is not long enough, the water will splash and pollute the surrounding area;
  • When constantly displaced, the plastic holder deforms the corrugation, damaging the hose.

When draining water from the washing machine directly into the toilet, control the process by holding the hose and not allowing it to move.

Also, this drainage option will cause inconvenience in everyday life.Firstly, you won’t be able to use the toilet while doing laundry. Secondly, the waste water coming from the machine will speed up the contamination of the toilet. If this does not suit you, then you should think about a different connection to the sewer.

Eccentric cuffs and corners with fitting

It is much safer and more convenient to refuse direct flushing into the toilet and connect the washing machine to the central drainage system. To do this, you need a corner or cuff equipped with a special fitting. Ideally, you need to install such a “bend” immediately when installing plumbing, so as not to change communications later and not to open the coverings. Before connecting the machine, the additional hole is closed with a plug.

This method will allow dirty water to go directly into the sewer pipe, bypassing the toilet. The toilet seat will remain clean and the toilet will remain free to use. The only problem is finding a suitable fitting, since not all stores sell corners and cuffs supplemented with bends.

To connect the washing machine to the sewer, you need a corner with a fitting.

A direct connection to the sewer has a danger - the risk of sewage flowing back into the washing machine due to the so-called “siphon effect” and pressure difference. To prevent this from happening, measures must be taken.connection via a fitting and a siphon with a check valve

  1. Install a siphon with a check valve.
  2. Raise the drain hose 80-90 cm from the floor covering.

By creating an elbow, you can smooth out possible differences in pressure and reduce to zero the likelihood of dirty water getting back into the machine. The check valve will open when draining and close the rest of the time. It is also important to ensure the reliability of the connections: the joints of the hose, siphon and fitting must be tightened with clamps and coated with sealant.

If the washing machine is located next to the toilet, then it is easier to install a drain through it. At first, the hose goes directly into the toilet, but in the long term it is better to establish a direct connection to the sewer.
