  • unscrew the “trash can” from left to right;
  • take out the cork;
  • wait until the water drains into the basin.

If you unscrew the garbage filter and the water still does not flow out, it means that the drain pipe leading from the tank to the pump is clogged. Move the hose, liquid may begin to appear. If not, you will have to disconnect the tube and wash it under running warm water.

Algorithm for troubleshooting

After draining the water, you can begin diagnosing your Whirlpool washing machine. Make sure that the machine is de-energized and disconnected from the water supply. First of all, the elements of the drainage system are inspected.

  • Garbage filter and its seat. Unscrew the plug, wash the filter element, and clean the dirt from the hole.

  • Drain pump. You can check the movement of the impeller through the hole formed after removing the debris filter. If hair and threads are wrapped around the blades, be sure to remove the debris.

A superficial inspection of the pump is not enough. Experts recommend additionally checking it as follows - launch the “Spin” option and observe the operation of the element. If the washer starts to hum, but the impeller does not start spinning, it means the pump has failed.

Typically, drainage on automatic Whirlpool machines does not work due to clogging of the drainage system elements: filter, pipe or pump.

Sometimes you can observe that the machine works in the “Spin” mode, but not in the “Drain” program. Old Whirlpool washing machines suffer from this problem. The mechanism of the machine weakens and cannot provide the necessary magnetic field. So the pump loses power and cannot withstand the load, so the water does not drain.

Broken pump

If the washing machine starts to hum when it starts to drain, but the water still does not leave the system, most likely the problem is with the pump. You can check if the pump is faulty using a multimeter. Use a tester to measure the resistance between the contacts of the part and compare the resulting value with the standard value.

  • turn off the power to the automatic machine;
  • disconnect the washing machine from the water supply;
  • lay a blanket on the floor;
  • lay the Whirlpool washing machine on its left side (it is important not to place the machine on the right wall, otherwise you may flood the control board with water accumulated in the dispenser);we get to the pump through the bottom
  • remove the pallet (if there is one);
  • find the pump;
  • unscrew the screws securing the pump;remove the pump through the bottom
  • remove the wiring, remembering the contact connection diagram;
  • remove the old pump from the housing;
  • install the new pump by inserting it into the grooves;
  • reconnect the wires;
  • secure the pump with bolts.

When buying a new drain pump, you need to focus on the model and serial number of the Whirlpool machine. Even better is to dismantle the old pump and bring it to the store as a sample. Then you can accurately select a replacement part.

After installing the new pump, you need to lift the machine, connect it to water and electricity, and start a test cycle.If the drainage does not work out, you will have to contact a service center.
