Washing a linen dress

Linen is a high-quality natural material, quite durable, with outstanding thermoregulatory and hygienic properties. Clothes made from linen are relevant at any time of the year, but summer dresses are especially often made from it. Washing does not harm linen at all, and over time the material only gets better: softer and more comfortable to wear. However, you need to wash a linen dress correctly and follow a number of simple rules so that the item really pleases the owner.

Automatic wash

It is better to wash linen products on the most delicate cycles, which, fortunately, modern washing machines abound in. They have different names, but the essence is the same: low washing temperature. When washing undyed linen, it is still permissible to heat the water to 60 degrees, but if the fabric is colored, a maximum of 40.

Also, when washing linen in a washing machine, be sure to include an additional rinse, since the fabric is porous and detergent residues settle on it. It is necessary to load the drum 2/3 of the permissible volume, since linen absorbs water and increases in weight and volume during washing. Due to the texture of the fabric, it should be spun at the lowest speed to avoid wrinkles and to make subsequent ironing easier.

Traditional wash

Hand washing a linen dress is the most reliable method of cleaning, since the possibility of causing harm is minimal, and the housewife has complete control over the process. However, it is still necessary to follow a number of rules.

• Pour hot water into the basin. If the dress is made of undyed linen, then you can heat it to 60 degrees, if it is made of dyed linen, it should not be heated higher than 30-40, so as not to shrink.
• Add detergent.It is better to use liquid gels, as they dissolve better and, accordingly, are rinsed out of the fibers.

If you do use loose powder, first dissolve it in a small amount of water separately, and then pour it into the washing container, stirring thoroughly.

• After the linen is washed, it must be rinsed in plenty of warm water. Balms, conditioners and other similar laundry products are not contraindicated when washing linen, either in a washing machine or by hand. On the contrary, they will make the product softer and more pleasant to the touch. So use it for your health.

Remove moisture and iron

There are no serious peculiarities when drying and ironing linen products, but there are plenty of small nuances. If you neglect them, nothing bad will happen, but it is better to comply with them.

In order to dry the product, you need to straighten it and lay it out on a horizontal surface or hang it on a drying rack. Dry naturally, away from direct sunlight, in a well-ventilated, cool area. The sun's rays dry out the fibers of the fabric and make it brittle and brittle. The same goes for the spin cycle. If you squeeze and twist the product too much, it will be very difficult to iron out the resulting marks later. That's why spin in the washing machine contraindicated.

Important! You can and should iron linen with an iron. Either by barely drying it, or by using the steam humidification function on an already dry fabric.

Overdried flax can be revived with the same steam. Use either an iron or steamer at maximum power. When creases form, you just need to go over them again with the steamer, more carefully, until they are completely eliminated.
