Washing the Askona mattress cover

Mattress covers from Askona are designed to protect the sleeping area from premature wear, dirt and loss of shape. But, like any fabric surface, sooner or later the mattress cover needs to be washed. Is it possible to wash the Askona mattress cover in a washing machine? In what program and in what temperature water can this be done? Let's answer these questions.

Is it machine washable?

As a rule, the fabric from which Askona mattress covers are made is very wear-resistant in itself. It is made of semi-synthetic fiber, so it does not fade, does not shrink, is easy to wash and does not require constant cleaning. The average mattress cover is washed about twice a year, if necessary it can be washed more often, but this is specific. Thus, we can conclude that machine washing will not cause any harm to the mattress cover, and this is true.

However, before you start cleaning, you should still carefully study the composition of the product. Yes, machine washing is acceptable in any case, but the mode will depend on the type of fabric. The relevant information will be recorded on a tag from the manufacturer:

• Microfiber. Fully synthetic, but quite durable material. Withstands washing in hot water up to 60 degrees.
• Bamboo. This, on the contrary, is a completely natural material that only accepts a delicate regime with a complete lack of spin. The water temperature should not exceed 40 degrees.
• Polycotton. Cotton and polyester blend fabric. The most durable and wear-resistant. Withstands washing in a washing machine at temperatures even above 60 degrees.
• Membrane, that is, waterproof fabric.Washable in a washing machine in cool water using special detergents.

Attention! Liquid products are ideal for washing a mattress cover: capsules or gels. They do not leave whitish streaks after the product dries, as they are easily washed out of the fabric fibers.

If it is not possible to use liquid detergents, use regular powder, but only with an additional rinse.

Removing unpleasant odors and old stains

If your mattress topper starts to smell bad or has old stains on it, try soaking it in cool water before washing. Since the product is quite bulky, it will not fit in a basin; it is more convenient to use a bathtub for this purpose.

To soak, you need to prepare a solution of salt and soda. Dissolve 1/2 tablespoon each of baking soda and salt in a small amount of water, and add the resulting liquid to a container with a soaked mattress pad. Waterproof covers made of membrane fabric are not allowed to be soaked in this way!

The mattress cover should be dried in a horizontal position, spread out, to avoid deformation. Try to protect it from direct sunlight and any kind of precipitation. Drying is done either outside or in a well-ventilated area.

To refresh a mattress cover, it is not necessary to wash it. You can vacuum the cover or take it out into the air for ventilation. By the way, various microbes and dust mites are afraid of frost, so ventilate the case more often in winter.

Hygiene rules require washing the mattress cover at least once every six months. Proper washing will prevent the appearance of pathogenic microorganisms and extend the life of the product.
