How to extend a dishwasher drain hose

Before purchasing new household appliances, we always carefully measure the space where we plan to install the purchase. But no one is immune from the situation when the hose of a new dishwasher turns out to be a little short, which is why it is not long enough to connect to the sewer. In such an unpleasant situation, experts recommend either buying a new drain hose, or simply coming up with a new place for the “home assistant.” But why these additional financial expenses and waste of time disassembling household appliances just to remove the old hose and connect a new one? It is much easier to extend the dishwasher drain hose at home.

How to install the hose?

Extending a dishwasher hose is a simple process that even a person without experience can handle. Everything you need can be easily described in several successive paragraphs.

• It is necessary to measure the diameter of the drain hose and the length that is not enough to reach the connection to the drain.
• In the store you should buy an extension hose of the required length along with a plastic connector, which looks like a small tube with a limiter protrusion in the middle.
• Next, all that remains is to combine the original hose with the extension hose and connector.

It should be remembered that the resulting hose should not be too long, otherwise the distance will become an additional obstacle to the water supply, the risk of blockages will increase, and the load on the pump will also increase.

Any of the three listed actions will not take much of your time, so you can handle the entire procedure with your own hands in half an hour.Just follow our instructions.

1. Take the free end of the dishwasher drain hose and the plastic connector.
2. Place a metal or plastic clamp over the end of the hose, and then attach the end of the connector to the hose.
3. Attach the end of the extension hose along with the clamp to the second edge of the plastic connector.

Connecting the PMM hose to the sewer

There are several ways to connect the dishwasher drain hose to the sewer system. One of them is a connection using a siphon. This installation differs in that the dishwasher hose must be connected not to the sewer pipe, but to another element of household plumbing - the sink siphon. Today, many siphons have an additional outlet built in, especially for a dishwasher or washing machine. How to use it correctly?

• Install the siphon on the sink.
• Check that it is working properly and that there are no leaks.
• Connect the dishwasher drain hose to the side outlet of the siphon.

If necessary, you can purchase a siphon with two outlets at once in order to connect a washing machine to it.

• Carefully seal the joint.
• Be sure to bend the hose in an “S” shape so that the water flows out normally and the household appliance does not hang up in the middle of the operating cycle.

If you do not have such a siphon, then you can use the outlet of a regular sewer pipe if it is located near the dishwasher. If there is a pipe, but there is no outlet in it, then you can make it yourself.

• We buy a regular tee for a sewer pipe.
• Using a hand pipe cutter, pipe scissors or any other suitable tool, cut the required plastic pipe.
• We fasten the tee, and then carefully seal the joint.

This completes the creation of the outlet. Place it only at a height of more than 40 centimeters from the floor level. Now all that remains is to insert the end of the drain hose into the newly installed tee, and then seal the resulting structure. For safety, the connection can also be secured with a metal clamp so that the pipe does not jump out of the outlet due to high water pressure. Don't forget to make an "S" bend in the hose so that the dishwasher doesn't have problems draining while it's running.
