How to change the lock on an Indesit washing machine?

To replace the lock on an Indesit washing machine, you don’t need many tools or ten years of experience. Anyone can cope with replacing the locking mechanism, armed with a screwdriver, a hexagon and the appropriate instructions. The main thing is to act carefully, consistently and remember safety precautions. Now in more detail, with specific steps and recommendations.

Instructions for replacing parts

You need to prepare for replacing the UBL. First of all, we find a hexagon and a screwdriver, with the help of which the retaining parts of the fasteners will be released. Next, disconnect the Indesit washing machine from all communications and move it away from the wall or headset, providing free access to the rear wall. Then we act according to the instructions.

1. Using a Phillips screwdriver from the back panel, unscrew the two screws holding the top cover. Then we push the “top” away from us, lifting it a little until the latches engage and the part is removed. Be prepared for the fact that it will take time to move, since the plastic clamps on Indesit are very tight and do not give in the first time.
2. Having removed the lid, tilt the washer back and run your hand down the front wall. We are trying to find the chip with the wires. To make the task easier, it is better to use a flashlight.
3. We take the hexagon and try to unscrew the two screws securing the blocker. It is recommended to hold the device on the other side with your other hand so that the part does not fall down.
4. As soon as the part is freed, we pull it out through the top.
5. We install the new UBL, proceeding in the reverse order.

If it was not possible to remove the blocker “in the dark,” then you can go the long way: loosen the outer clamp on the hatch cuff, tuck the edge of the elastic inward and unscrew the door. Then take out the locking mechanism, and then the locking device.

But the first method has an undeniable advantage - the user does not touch the clamp, and the cuff remains in place. The fact is that it is very difficult to install the seal in its original place, and often a mistake results in a broken seal and further leaks. But there is also a “minus”: the machine will have to be moved often, so it is better to involve a couple of extra hands in the repair.

Element diagnostics

But don’t rush to change the UBL right away. Before you go to the store, you should check your old device for functionality. We look for the electronic blocker circuit in the user manual, study it and turn on the multimeter. We set up the tester to measure resistance, connect the probes to “zero” and “phase” and look at the values ​​displayed on the display. If a three-digit number appears, then everything is in order with the device; if less, there is a malfunction. At the same time, we “break through” the general contact: when “0” or “1”, replacement is not needed.

It is impossible to repair a faulty blocker: it is easier and cheaper to immediately purchase a new one. It won’t be difficult to find a replacement analogue - inexpensive devices are sold in stores that sell spare parts for Indesit. The main thing is to dictate the serial number of the model to the seller or remove the old device and show it as a sample.

Why did the part break?

If the door closes only halfway, the mechanical lock works, but there is no second click, then there are problems with blocking the hatch. The control board does not receive a signal that complete sealing has been achieved in the drum, so the safety system does not start the cycle and informs the user of an error. As a rule, the corresponding indicator on the dashboard lights up or a fault code is displayed on the display.

Electronic locking is provided to double protect the drum from accidental opening. Thanks to it, the door cannot be opened during the washing process, which eliminates leakage and flooding of the room and the equipment itself. But if the blocker malfunctions, the program will not start. One of the following reasons causes the stop.

• Wear. The longer the machine is used, the more the UBL bimetallic plates wear out. Erasing affects the electrical conductivity and operation of the blocker as a whole. In this case, repair is powerless - only replacement.
• Blockage. It is rare, but it happens that the blocker chip becomes clogged with dust or other debris. Needs to be disassembled and cleaned.
• Problems with the electronic unit. Burnt-out “tracks”, faulty triacs or problems with the firmware - all this prevents the module from receiving a blocking signal from the UBL.

Anyone can clean or change the locking device themselves. But it is strictly not recommended to diagnose or repair the board at home. Remember that a module is a fragile, complex and expensive part. One wrong move and you'll have to spend a lot of money.
