“Wool” sign on a washing machine

Wool sign on a washing machineThe dashboard on a washing machine does not always have explanatory inscriptions and explanations; more often the manufacturer limits itself to only applying icons. To understand what is hidden behind a particular image, you need to consult the instructions or the Internet. Another option is to press at random and wait for the result. There is no need to take risks with woolen items - it is better to find out what the Wool icon looks like on a washing machine of most brands.

Different manufacturers designate the program for washing woolen clothes differently. The decoding is not always recognizable and understandable, especially if the washer was produced a long time ago, not in Russia, and the factory instructions were lost over time. In this case, it is better to find out what the “Wool” mode on the dashboard might look like.

  1. “A ball with a thread that has come out.” The most common and recognizable option, by which it is easy to guess the purpose of the program.
  2. “Two balls next to each other.” It's more complicated here because one large image is replaced by two small ones. It is difficult for users with poor eyesight to identify fur, but with the help of a magnifying glass it is possible.
  3. "Three balls arranged in a pyramid." This encryption is considered the most incomprehensible, since several small elements merge and look unfamiliar.
  4. “One skein of yarn, tied with a ribbon in the center.” This is how most stores selling woolen thread are designated, so manufacturers have transferred this image to the dashboard.Wool icon variant
  5. "Pyramid of three balls with a sun." This is how the “Wool” program is depicted only on Indesit washing machines, suggesting more gentle cleaning.

The Wool program is more often referred to as balls or skeins.

Sometimes the listed designations are supplemented with numbers specifying the temperature regime. But such “combinations” are rare; usually manufacturers limit themselves to balls or skeins. But it is not enough to know the program; you need to find out the specified parameters and cycle duration.

Bosch washing machines 5th generation

Most modern Bosch washing machines provide a special program for washing woolen items. As a rule, the “Wool” mode is activated by turning the knob 6 positions to the image of the skein and offers an improved algorithm. The cycle is configured with the following parameters:

  • duration – 40 minutes;
  • spin intensity – up to 800 rpm;
  • water heating – up to 40 degrees (the user can reduce the temperature to the “30” or “cold” mark).

The “Wool” program on Bosch washing machines involves gentle rotation of the drum, spinning up to 800 rpm and heating the water up to 40 degrees.

The “trick” of the program is that it rotates the drum as slowly and carefully as possible. So, after filling the tank, the clothes scroll intermittently and then stop. For most of the cycle, items remain stationary, allowing the detergent to gently clean the fibers. Water enters the drum to a minimum to ensure gentle washing.designation on Bosch machines

Approximately halfway through the cycle, the first rinse is turned on, then drains and slowly switches to spin. The wrung-out items are rinsed again, while the rinse aid is withdrawn from the tray. Then the machine accelerates and dispenses washed wet laundry.

LG direct drive machines

A similar program on washing machines from LG also represents the most gentle cleaning using advanced technology.To turn on the mode, the selector is rotated three positions to the image of a ball of wool. The automatically set settings are similar to Bosch's: temperature - 40, 30 or 20 degrees, spin - 0, 400 or 800, and cycle duration - about an hour.

Modern washing machines offer wool programs with a new drum rotation algorithm.

Wool is washed on LG using a delicate wash. The standard scheme of “filling the drum, washing, rinsing and spinning” is modified:

  • the tank is filled during the cycle and in small portions;
  • most of the time the drum is stationary, but rotates slowly and intermittently;
  • things are cleaned not by rotating, but by soaking in a soap solution;
  • The rinse is carried out several times, the final rinse is carried out with the conditioner taken from the dispensary.Wool icon on an LG machine

The beauty of the new algorithm is that it offers washing that is no different from hand washing. The rotation of the drum is as gentle as possible, so the fibers are not damaged. But there is also a “minus” - due to portioned filling of the tank and slow scrolling, things can remain dry even after an hour-long cycle. In this case, you need to choose a different mode or put in less laundry.

Samsung appliances

Samsung washing equipment has a “Hand Wash Wool” mode for knitted items. A program has been developed specifically for woolen products, while the manufacturer immediately limits the weight to a maximum of 2 kg. To activate the cycle, simply turn the selector to the third division.

This mode assumes:

  • duration – from 39 to 50 minutes;
  • temperature - 30 or 40 degrees;
  • spin – 0, 400 or 800 rpm.

Washing wool on Samsung takes place in a small amount of water, and the drum rotates rarely and at most half a turn.For most of the cycle, items lie motionless in the soap solution, which ensures high-quality and gentle washing. Rinsing is carried out twice, after which the washing machine switches to spinning. Modern machines offer an improved wool washing mode, which is practically no different from hand washing. All this allows you to wash knitted items without shrinkage or damage.
