How to put a spring on a washing machine drum?

How to put a spring on a washing machine drumWhen replacing the hatch cuff, users are faced with the need to put the spring on the drum of the washing machine. This is a spring in the sense of the word that is not quite familiar to us. This is the name given to one of the two clamps (internal) that holds the cuff on the washing machine tank. Not everyone manages to tighten the clamp and do it correctly the first time. In this article we will try to explain how this is done as simply as possible.

How is this part installed?

There are quite a few ways to tighten a spring onto a cuff, but most of them are very labor-intensive and time-consuming. Through experience, ordinary users and craftsmen have found the most ergonomic and simplest method of tightening the clamp onto the cuff.

Many washing machines have a removable front wall. For example, Bosch, LG, Samsung models. If it is possible to dismantle the front wall, the craftsmen recommend using it, as this will greatly facilitate the process of installing the clamp. However, dismantling is not at all necessary; you can change the cuff without it. Since the front part of many machines in everyday life cannot be removed, let’s look at how to put the clamp on the cuff without this action.

  • Tilt the washing machine backwards about 45 degrees and lean it against the wall. This is done to provide more space when working with the spring and cuff.tilt the machine back
  • Place the cuff on the washing machine tub.
  • To put the spring on, it is advisable to wrap the cuff inside the tank, but not all cuffs can be wrapped, and it is difficult to secure them in this position; this can interfere.thread the cuff into the drum
  • Now you need to unscrew the hatch locking device. It is attached with two screws to the right of the hatch. Unscrew the screws.removing the UBL from under the cuff
  • Now take the spring and screwdriver. Place the screwdriver in the hole instead of the UBL so that the end is located inside the tank. Use a screwdriver to hook the spring.
  • Next, holding the screwdriver handle from the outside with your foot, tug on the spring to make sure that the screwdriver holds it well.hold it with a screwdriver and put on the clamp
  • While continuing to hold the screwdriver, insert the spring directly into the cuff groove. Move in a circle, tensioning the spring under the cuff. Having the cuff turned down will help you a lot here, but if not, you will have to turn it back manually as you go.

Important! Be prepared for the fact that a lot of force will be required; in the end, the spring will be tensioned so much that you will have to try to fit it into the groove.

When everything is ready, you can take out a screwdriver and secure the cuff with an outer clamp. Next, put the car in its original position and that’s it.

The cuff does not always need to be changed

A common reason for cuff replacement is damage to the lower part of the cuff. Water begins to seep into the hole, and as a result, the machine leaks liquid. However, in this case it is not at all necessary to change the cuff; you can move it so that the hole is located at the top, the problem will be solved, and you will not have to spend money on a new part.

Some people try to twist the cuff directly on the tank, just by opening the hatch door. You will not achieve anything this way, since the part is secured with two clamps: internal and external. You will have to perform certain manipulations before moving the cuff.

  1. Bend the edges of the cuff at the hatch wall. There you will find a metal or plastic clamp. Hook and move around the perimeter until you find the fastener.remove the clamp from the hatch cuff
  2. Loosen the fastening so that the outer clamp no longer holds the elastic.
  3. In the same way, only on the other side of the cuff, find the inner clamp. How to replace the cuff on a Siemens washing machine
  4. Use a screwdriver to pick it up, find the fastening and loosen it, but it is not necessary to remove the spring.
  5. Unfold the rubber band so that the gap is at the top of the hatch.

Now fasten the clamps in the reverse order: first the inner, then the outer. Feel the cuff with your hands, check whether the rubber seal itself and both clamps fit correctly into the groove. Close the washer hatch. If there are no problems, then everything was done correctly.

Note! Taking off and putting on the collars is quite difficult and time-consuming, but if you try to turn the cuff over, ignoring the fastenings, you risk completely tearing the elastic.

Select repair tools carefully. Avoid very sharp screwdrivers and other objects that can make the hole in the cuff even larger, because then turning it over will not help and you will have to buy a new seal.
